MG4 Battery Health

Mine is a 2023 model, not sure how long it was sitting but maybe 1 year almost until I bought it a month ago. The SOH is 97.8% as read by carscanner app, I have done 1000 kilometers.

Latest data on mine - Born June 22 - SR LFP -51 KW ? now at 23k miles

Should a battery health check be part of an annual service?
Mine had an annual service (3 years old now) last week and I wasn't given any information on battery health. I asked my local garage and they told me they go do this for a £156!
I've since contacted MG UK customer care who said this;

"You will need to contact an MG dealership for confirmation as I am unable to see battery health checks in the service schedule"

Hello, i just bought carscanner obdII. My car is from june 2024. 51kwh version. 12000 kms, SoH 92 % ???? this looks like a joke to me. my tesla has same SoH after 4 years and 80 000 kms ... it's true i didnt balance for a 2 weeks, will try to measure after balancing ...

LFP tends to drop sooner (perhaps partly because there is less upper buffer), and then the drops level out.

I wouldn't worry too much at this point, as long as it does not continues to drop.

don't give too much stock into this info.

If you want to get real degradation (or close to it) reset board computer and check the range. Your actual range divided by WLTP range of your car will give you a better idea of degradation.

My suspesion is, that 51kWh cars include bottom buffer into the degradation (i think it's around 2.5-3%) so you likely start with below 100% SOH from the factory.

I don't know if that is accurate though. When I reset the board computer, the car estimates a range way above my WLTP, but because I do a fairly long stretch of 100-110 km/h driving at least weekly, I get nowhere near that range. I don't think that indicates my (NMC) battery pack has degraded to 80% after 1 year of ownership.

This past winter (which to be fair doesn't get as cold as a UK winter) I got around 350 km of range on a 100% charge. It was my first winter with the car, so I am curious to see if my range goes up again now the weather is supposed to warm up.

Maybe NMC cars are different. Im pretty sure LFP cars, when you reset the consumption, range estimation defaults to WLTP minus degradation.
