MG4 Undertray dip/bulge

If my dealer hasn't managed to do a good job on mine, I'm quite tempted to take it to my local garage and ask him to have a go. These guys are good. I presume a lift designed to take an ICE car will be able to lift an MG4? Or are EVs too heavy?

If I do it, I'd like to have some idea what works.

Nice, would you be able to show a picture please ? I'm assuming fixing it up was safe enough considering the battery etc ?
Sounds good, but we all know what they say about assuming! I'd also expect there is likely enough gap between the undertray and anything critical like battery or wiring, tho careful examination before drilling in additional texscrews (or similar) could save a whole heap of heartache after - I think it safe to assume what MG will say about warranty if they find a hole drilled into battery pack!

A standard garage lift will have no problem with our EVs. As you imagine, I'm sure this is a very solvable problem.

I took my tray off to take a look. The casting that some people have said looks like it is below the edge of the tray is indeed lower than the underbody forwards of it. The rear under tray has a lip on the front edge that reaches up beyond the casting.

Because of the casting there is nowhere to add an additional screw in the middle.

The tray has some padding between the casting and the plastic. I guess it is a heat sink and gets warm and the padding is an effort to limit the effects of the heat somewhat; not good for an area of unsupported plastic.

On mine I could not remove the sag by taking up slack in mount points either side. :(

Next attempt will be to see if I can make a metal strap to go between the existing bolts.

I remember taking my Golf in with a puncture and watching in some awe as the lift simply hoisted the car into the air so that the wheels were at eye level for the mechanic.

Please keep us posted about this, especially if you make progress with a reliable fix.

Slightly off topic, but Philippa Forrester did a video about EV servicing and it shows some of the equipment used in a specialist EV maintenance bay, including the modified ramp.

Will you leave a small square gap in the middle like the later modified ones ?

I took my car into MG Bayliss Gloucester, they were were very good and have admitted the tray is warped from the intended shape, so they have ordered me a new one. I am hoping it is the new design, but will see.

Ah, so it's not about the weight, or even about not damaging components under the car, but about being able to access the battery and even remove it.

So presumably an ordinary lift would be able to deal with an EV that simply needed a wheel change or something like that? And I would imagine would give adequate access to the rear undertray too.

Just had a squint underneath mine. Phase 2 SE LR.
