Finally got around to fitting another MG HS parts bin upgrade to my PFL. Thought I'd do a step by step as the rear interior light question is often asked.

Originally I was going to use and MG6 rear interior light but was worried about getting it bang central in the head liner. So after seeing the HS MK1 had grab handle lights I checked the mountings would be the same as a 5 (fortunately I have access to the right vehicles at work to do so) and they were compatible.

I knew how I'd wire them in so just needed to check at the interior light which colour wire provided the permanent 12V so the "switched" setting and which did the "doors open" 12V.
Testing at the interior light plug i determined, solid Green is permanent 12V and the Green and Yellow is the "doors open" feed.

So I made my loom up for the grab handle lights using the same colour wires as found at the grab handle light plugs. I made it long enough to travel from the rear grab handles down the interior roof edges and across on each side to the interior light area. The wires from each side joined into a 2 pin plug, with the joint made by crimping the 2 wires into each pin on the plug. So pin 1 left and right Green and Yellow wire and pin 2 left and right Blue and Brown.

I then made a short loom with a plug to link into the loom on the car for the interior light.
Now some people would go a different way about it but my preferred method with this kind of thing is to make a solid soldered splice. Cut the wires and rejoin with the spliced wire in one joint and heat shrink it. (See photos).

Tidy the splice loom, feed the light loom into the head liner and plug it in.

With the "hard part" done it was just a case of mark the head liner at the grab handles and trim the holes out for the light using a craft knife.

"Great you have a hole and wiring but you haven't earthed it" I hear you saying well to finish the wiring I earthed the loom for each side at the grab handle. I used the curtain bag bolt because it's quick, easy to get to and a good solid earth.

Then it's just plug the lights in push them into place and fit the MG HS grab handles. As you can see in the comparison photo of the MG5 grab handle and the HS grab handle light mounts.
The HS' coat hook is part of the backing plate with the light and not the grab handle which is why you need both the handles and light backing plate if you want to fit the HS grab handle light.

They are a snug fit in the head liner recesses but I'm very happy with them and that I can now see much better to clip the kids in child seats.
