My Solution for Rear Number Plate on MG5

Thank you so much 👍

Edit - another stupid question......how do you mark up the newer bigger plate, to allow for the screw holes (all four of them)

As gomev said, I used sticky pads for the lower half. The Chinese mountings protrude slightly so the pads take up the excess and allow for a cleaner fit

A warning for those traveling through France - apparently they take a dim view of number plates not attached with screws, weird.
Mine are secured with 2 screws like a normal UK plate would plus sticky pads. The 2 screws alone would be fine but being an oversized plate, the pads add the extra support

If you don't put screws in the bottom holes, is there any chance that water could get into the holes?

The optimum solution (IMHO ;)) to the plate situation is to source plates close to the Chinese size.

This size also fits the front plinth perfectly.

457mm x 140mm is what you want.

You can't have any green strip or country ID on the above size though, so if you want that, you'll have to go with 520mm x 140mm, but then you're back to banging up against the rear badging if properly centred and you've not de-badged.

I'm struggling to find a 457x140. Could you let me know who supplied them, please?

If I recall, it was proplates.co.uk

Their online configuration doesn't offer this width, just 140mm deep at the slightly wider standard width, but if you call and tell them what you want, they'll do that size for you.

I did, and received this reply today. 'The 457 plate we do is 457x111. I'm afraid we don't do the size you want.'

I got mine from the site below, It may require getting in touch to give dimensions you want but they did mine to the size I asked for.
