Problems using a USB 2-way splitter with CarPlay

I have a wireless dongle plugged in to my MG4's USB-A port and it works fine. Only problem is, I now can't use it to charge my phone. So I have bought two splitters, but neither one works with CarPlay. I assume it's because of the wiring not being able to carry data.

Can anyone recommend a 2-way splitter that does work with CarPlay?

If he has an SE spec car then No.

Plus not all phones are compatible with wireless charging. (Mine isn't).

The 12V socket has a much higher power rating anyway (120W?), so it is better for charging a modern phone.

Or use a USB C charging cable in that port. It's actually what I use even though I could use the wireless charging pad.
I use the 12v socket to power my dash cam.

The rear usb port outputs 12w so use that. The fronts only output 7w each

I do. But it's practically useless. It's incredibly fussy about the precise position of the phone so that when you make a turn or go over a slight bump it stops charging. Even when it is charging it does so about 1% per week.

I agree.

I am quite surprised that more cars don't support the Qi/Magsafe standard, which would nestle in beautifully in the tray and hold the phone in place strongly whilst also charging at a reasonable speed.

I agree, what's point in wasting so much space for a matt that can't even keep the phone still on it. To be frank the whole console arrangement and cupholders is frankly pee poorly designed.

Cigarette lighter would be the best with second best probably being the back USB port, in my experience the USB c port isn't enough power for my iPhone to recognise it and start charging. You can also then get whichever wattage power you need specifically (even enough for a laptop) and you can keep the back USB for passengers.

Yes, that's one of the reasons I prefer to use it rather than the wireless charging mat. I only want the phone trickle charging when I'm on long journeys running Android Auto. The USB C port provides enough juice to eventually get it to fully charged and keep it there without overheating.

The charging mat gets the phone too hot. I'm not a big fan of wireless charging in the big picture in any circumstance. I have one at home, but I really don't use it that much.
