Booked my 21 PFL SR in for its mot - the guy said what about the 12 month service?

He then said err it's an interim check and to keep your warranty, to which i replied so it will be a lot cheaper?;)

He quoted £110:cautious:

Then i said i know its a standard range but what about the update so it can charge at Tesla chargers.

He claims to know nothing about it and nothing showing against the VIN.

So. my question is - does it need a service and what is actually checked, especially considering it will be having its MOT.

Oh and can it in fact have the Tesla/VCCU? update?

@Miles Roberts CG is the Standard Range MG5 capable of an update to enable charging at Tesla chargers?
This is exactly the same question I can't get an answer for. Does anyone know if the MG5 SR pre-facelift can be updated to charge at Tesla?

I would say the best palace to get all the questions answered is a MG Dealership
The questions being
Can the SR be updated yes or no
If yes what’s is involved and what will it cost
Simple as that. That’s where I would start anyhow to get a definite yes or no.
Les.

Unfortunately the dealer round the corner was a much use as a chocolate fire guard.

I will pop into the dealer I bought it from about 6 miles away, at some point.

From my experience, it is that the dealers aren't getting the proper advice and support from MG - even after raising 'technical cases' and none of them appear to share experiences with other dealers.

I started my working life as an apprentice mechanic for a VW/Audi specialist - those guys knew the cars inside out and I just don't think anyone that works on today's MGs comes close to that level of knowledge as the Chinese are so secretive

Glyn Hopkin in Waltham Abbey have just had my car for 5 days. I had told them that all I wanted was the Tesla fix. Dropped the car off Monday 8am. They called me Friday afternoon to say that they could apply the fix for £180. I told them the *#_&( off. What on earth were they doing for 5 days? I won't be going back.

I'll keep any updates posted. The Tesla centre in Leeds is newly opened for everyone as I was planning a trip to Harrogate to test the update if I get it. Totally useless as a charging site for me under normal circumstances of course but hopefully as a test.
Here's the update, car went in yesterday and for reference it is a Jan 2022 reg Exclusive LR.

Arrived at dealer handed keys over and asked if there was any cost for this 'Tesla' update. I was thankfully told that it was covered under warranty.

Caught a couple of buses home, via some shopping and waited for the phone call.

2pm call came and was told the update could not be done without an new EVCC and that would cost £500 plus. Managed to get a lift to go and pick the car up and came home, unfortunately not via a Tesla Supercharger.

Now from previous posts on here I was under the impression rightly or wrongly that the EVCC change was for the SR version and that the LR could be done with a software update. I mentioned this but received no positive comment.

So it would have been nice to have had this update and if I was keeping the car I would have been very disappointed as I'm planning some long trips this year, however as it's being traded in tomorrow but I am disappointed for others on here.

Thank you for sharing Gomev. That is indeed disappointing. I've got my annual service at Luscombe's in a few weeks and have specifically asked for the update. Initially told there were 'no updates' for my car but then actually shared some posts on here (including yours) and then they said it would be done after 'checking with their technicians'.

Lets see - mine is a FL 2023 reg MG5 so definitely know the EVCC is compatible.

Will update my experience. It's exasperating how inconsistent people's experiences are with this.

Shame they couldn't do the update. Goes back to my comment about general charger compatibility and (lack of) support from MG/SAIC. Given that Tesla are providing 'white label' chargers to other companies, will we find there are bigger problems to come?

I really like my MG5 but that will be it for me and the brand when I come to looking at a replacement unless there is a major mindset shift from MG

Exactly the same position as myself.
I went to another dealer and they have my car booked to add the software only - and I specifically verified that no parts needed to be replaced.
That will cost me £81.

Its MG not responding, not the dealer.
