Does MG4 have any sort of automatic tpms pairing like other brands? For example, if i switch around wheels, will they be detected or will need programming again?

What aftermarket sensors are you guys running?

The sensors won’t auto detect, they need to remain as they are unfortunately

From what I recall, service info suggests TPMS requires reprogramming if wheels swapped around. Seems nuts as my MG5 also reports individual pressures for each corner but, I believe, will self-learn new positions and rotating wheels is recommended in the owners manual.

Here's my experience:
I've had my wheels repainted (powder coated), so all wheels off, and new TPMS valves.
Now, I don’t know what make of valves the garage used, and I was dreading having warning lights and error messages, but all I had to do was drive slowly ie 30mph max for a short distance, and the system recognised the new valves and all is OK now. I've checked with iSmart all all is perfect!

A small difference here is that these are new valves no programming needed.
hojnikb is swapping wheels around keeping the same valves. I'd say try swapping a couple of wheels, drive a short distance, half a mile (1km) max 30mph (50km/h), and see if it self learns. 😣

Cool, thank you!

Would be silly to need to reprogram them everytime you rotate the tires. I have to buy an aftermarket set of tpms sensors for my summer tires, so that's why i was interested in knowing how it works on MG.

I have a set of wheels for winter (with TPMS fitted by the wheel supplier) and the originals for summer. I swapped them over yesterday and the MG reads the wheels straight away.
... that because the wheel supplier has done this correctly & cloned the old wheels with the new ones, probably using a Autel TS508 and programmable TPMS sensors.

They didn't clone them as they are 150 miles away - probably just programmed them correctly.

Interesting, that they didn't need to clone them, maybe the reprogamable ones self-learn as soon as they are on the car, which would be a good thing, just didn't know that they did this!

I am thinking of rotating my wheels front to back and vv, will the TPMS need reprogramming? The MG4 manual says yes it does. Viz"TPMS coding is required after changing wheel positions, please consult a local MG Authorised Repairer for details.” But looking at AI on line - "MG4 EV TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) generally learns new wheel positions automatically after a rotation, but it requires driving. The sensors typically re-calibrate to their new positions within roughly 5 to 40 minutes of driving, meaning manual resetting or dealer tools are usually not required.” Which is correct my MG dealer said the cost of reprogramming was £250 and I would rather not spend that. Halfords said they rotating wheels would need dismounting TPMS and replacing to original location. Again at a hefty cost.

The MG method is pretty simple - the sensor IDs are hard coded into the car and linked to their installed position. There is no self learning as it would require extra hardware in the car - you can get away with self learning (without additional hardware) IF it is the type of TPMS that doesn’t give you the pressure reading by location - some Kias have just a warning light and they will relearn with driving (and yes they are active TPMS sensors).

If you are keen on rotating tyres / being prepared - I’d say invest in some autel TPMS tools. I only have the cheaper one that will allow you to clone sensors if you have the IDs. To make tyre rotation easier - you need the slightly higher spec model which will also write the sensor IDs to their respective locations via the OBD port.

Just to confirm that for me the TPMS DID NOT learn new position after tyre swap. I had all 4 tyres replaced at Halfords and stressed to them to keep wheels on same location. They didn't, and I now have MG software reporting pressure for rear right which is actually now the rear left. Been like this for 12 months the now. No auto correct feature.

On the Urban's manual the procedure is described as:

1 The vehicle is powered off and locked for 25 minutes
2 Drive continuously for 15 minutes with the vehicle speed exceeding 25 mph ( 40 km/h).

Please make multiple turns while driving.

No idea whether these are the minimum requirements or they have to be followed by the letter tbh
