I've never seen the bar turn orange, even as remaining battery gets to 2%.
I've only ever seen it (on two occasions now) when starting the car.
I've not noticed any regen issues when driving the car (I'm usually set at 3, and only have reduced regen when battery is at 100%, and I get a warning when starting a journey if battery is at 100%)
So far, I've always had green bars when restarting the car for the next journey.
I don't think the colour is weather related (orange bars appeared on "average" days)
Finally, here's my orange bar pic 😊

Considering the theme of your screen it looks like you may be on older infotainment software. I believe the random orange bar was a bug in older software. Although it may still be there in current versions, I’m not sure of this.

For me the bar doesn’t go orange until very low state of charge.

For me the orange bar appears randomly and very infrequently about once every 2 or 3 months. Regardless of SOC or weather. Reverts to green next time screen switched on. Also very, very infrequently the info screen goes blank.

It’s a j bug and it was fixed in later software releases. It’s likely your cars both need several updates not just software.
I wish MG dealers just did it without being scaredy cats.

I get this orange bar weekly so for me it's more of a feature now, just like the weekly eCall system fault/failure messages. It is likely a software race condition.

Saw a post somewhere, not on this forum, suggesting that the battery gauge turns orange when the HV battery is being used to charge the 12v battery via the DC-DC convertor. Having said that, I've never seen it orange on mine except when the HV battery was low.

This is not true . The 12v battery charges when the car is in ready mode and also when charging the HV battery. This can be seen by looking at the 12v battery voltage which will be close to 14v when charging. Mine has never been orange. It is supposed to be a traffic light system according to HV state of charge but it appears to not work properly on the MG4.

Mine seems to work properly now ... Green until just below 10% whereupon it turns Orange/Yellow, and then below about 5% it turns Red.

I wonder if it’s based on estimate range remaining, my last ICE car did this, the fuel light would come on with 100km range remaining, not necessarily at a certain fuel level. Which to me always seemed a little strange, but a little strange seems to fit MG too to be honest.

The only thing my car consistently does is the voice prompt to charge at 21%, the colour change of the bar doesn’t seem consistent in my MG4.

The 12V battery will charge when the car is powered up, it does not need to be in Ready mode. It should charge when the HV battery is charging but I've seen a low voltage battery charging fault when I've DC charged.

I thought the low voltage battery charging fault after finishing a DC charge has something to do with the HV disconnecting upon the charge finishing, and then it goes away when the car is put into ready mode as it “reconnects” with the 12V? Obviously software connections, the physical connection would be unchanged.

I don’t really know a lot about the system though.
