This is today's range this morning at minus 7c. All my recent jouneys have been short ( no chance for battery to heat up much ) with 22c heating on and heated seats . That's 158 miles at 80 percent which equates to 197.5 at 100 percent. This is really for any newbies worried if their car is faulty. I can categorically say in the summer the range will be at 330 miles at 100 percent.

I never reset my trip meters, as my driving ‘style’ doesn’t really vary.
I find the miles/kWh a much better and more accurate way to estimate my range. Of course the outside temperature and use of HVAC has an immediate effect, together with short journeys not allowing the battery to warm up, which can easily be seen on the driver’s screen.

Multiplying one’s miles/kWh by usable battery becomes second nature if range is an issue on a particular journey.
How do you do this calculation please?

How do you do this calculation please?
I multiply the current jouneys miles per kWh by 0.7 × % battery left and then knock off a few miles as it should be 0.683 (the useable battery is 68.3 kWh) but multiplying by 0.7 is easier mental maths. Also I see how many miles I have done after 25% usage and then multiply by 4, and how much after 50% and then multiply by 2.

Thanks very much!

From your experience, are the BMS updates free or they are carried out as part of the annual service?
I think they may be chargeable unless they are done as part of a service plan.

I mentioned in an earlier reply a prior reference to long/cold weather range. Here is that link. It refers to an ZS EV SR but some of the ideas still apply:

Modern Heroes has a YouTube video on the topic in his Gen1 model.

Morning Forum,
I have a MG ZS EV Trophy Long Range, I have had the car from new and it was delivered about 6 weeks ago. All the literature that I have for the vehicle mentions the range for the Long Range being 273 miles when fully charged. I find that extending the battery to long Range journeys (100%), I only get between 208 and 213 miles from a full 100% charge.
Is this right and if so, how/why?
My results from 11,000+ miles of summer winter driving ZS Trophy LR

as you can see End mls = GOM total theoretical miles available at 100% only 5 times and 80% charge at home most of the time at cheap rate. A big difference between Summer and Winter.
Battery pre heating ONLY helps charging rate before Rapid on 50kW charger and above if under 10deg C. I was getting 49.4kW after heating on 50kW charger, normally 42kW.

Seems within reason as per EV Database. Nothing new here really, the WLTP range on ALL EVs can vary enrmously depeding on conditions. EV Database is worth a look & it outlines some of these parameters.

Real Range between 160 - 345 mi

City - Cold Weather230 mi
Highway - Cold Weather160 mi
Combined - Cold Weather195 mi
City - Mild Weather345 mi
Highway - Mild Weather205 mi
Combined - Mild Weather260 mi

Indication of real-world range in several situations. Cold weather: 'worst-case' based on -10°C and use of heating. Mild weather: 'best-case' based on 23°C and no use of A/C. For 'Highway' figures a constant speed of 70 mph is assumed. The actual range will depend on speed, style of driving, weather and route conditions.

Hi all, I have a 2023 mg zs. Based in Ireland. As per the website details the exclusive long range should be 440km on a full charge. I’m only getting 350km when charged to 100% . This is in eco mode( less if in normal or sport).
Anyone else having these issues?

Hi, if you put a few words in the search bar you will find a few threads on this.
Basically it's cold out and the HV battery doesn't like that. Plus you have probably been using the heater and light etc. Try resetting the trip counters.

ZSEV 2021. Up until November 2023 would charge to 150+ miles over the last two winters then it would not! Can only get 100% charge to 118 miles. MG dealership is saying this is normal I disagree.Anyone else having these problems would be pleased to hear from you many thanks Ken

UPDATE
I booked my MG ZS EV first generation, Exclusive, to be checked at an MG dealer in Edinburgh (Peter Vardy MG) as the range I was getting was too low (about 75 miles). They had run some checks and this is the response I received from them:

“Checked SIPs and found calibration and confirmation files missing from BMS and VCU. Carried out software update and rechecked all OK”

The voltage now shows 450V when fully charged (previously was showing 456V) and the range seems more consistent than before. I haven’t driven the car that long but the issue seems to have been solved. I was charged £140 as I was told this was not covered by the 7 Year MG warranty which I wasn’t convinced but paid anyway.

Thanks for your help.

I charged to 100% as I had a long road trip on a super charger and only got 190 miles and that was using Eco I have a long range model is there any reason why this happened

Weather will effect range of an EV. Batteries don't like cold weather, plus use of heater, etc will have an effect. I have an MG4 long range, and currently getting about 200-220 miles at this time of year. Was getting closer to 300 miles in the summer.

Probably the weather ie. wind & temperature, your speed & how heavy footed you were.
I did an 80ml round trip in my short range ZS(167mls) last week on the M1. Started on 184eco but had to recharge to get home- gales, rain & heater on 2!

What m/kWh was showing for your trip?
What make and kW was the rapid charger and what charge rate did it drop to as you got to 100%?

Its weather. A few weeks back I was down to about 190 equivalent at 100% (lots of short journeys with a very cold battery). After a decent run out yesterday of 15 miles each way at 12°C, its now back to 245 miles on the GOM. Was back getting just over 4 miles /kWh yesterday.

I have a Long range I was expecting to get at least 220 miles on a full charge

It ain’t happening bro. That’s the nature of EVs I’m afraid. The plus side is you’ll get a very decent range above that in the warmer months, so it’s swings and roundabouts.
