An update is needed to this as I think I've been unintentionally misleading in my recent posts, I put it down to age or a brain fart!

In my posts since #344 I keep making incorrect reference to failed coms between Zappi and the Internet, that's wrong, what I should have said is that I'm happy that MY sporadically incomplete charges since upgrading to V5 software on the Zappi are due to poor or failing coms between the Zappi and the device that has the incoming CT clamp connected to it, not the internet.

It doesn't change what I see as the fix for our Zappi / MG4 SE charging problems as our Zappi is so far away from the house, hardwiring it back to the router will hopefully solve the problem as I will then have good coms with the device that the incoming CT clamp is connected to - in my case this is an eddi configured as the master device and also to be hard wired back to the router providing a far more resilient coms route to the Zappi by no longer relying on Myenergi's propietory 868MHz wireless link.

Poor local coms giving a flaky charge should not effect:

A Zapppi that has no other myenergi devices, ie no CT or CT wired directly into the Zappi without a Harvi

Most other configurations I believe could be affected.

I was lucky enough to watch this coms failure in action today as IO allocated me an 11:00z-11:30z charge slot and I wandered out to witness it falling over. It's here in this 30sec vid. Note top right, there is no flow of power from the grid and then the key message Local Coms Lost! Emphasis on Local, it has no sight of the incoming CT or power flow. Normally the graphic shows power flowing in from the pylon to the house to cover what the Zappi is using.

Why is all this here and not in a Myenergi forum. My past experience of solar stop start charging leads me to think that the MG4 is intolerant of being messed about and after a period of stop / start tells the charger that it's had enough and signals charge complete and so ends up short charged.

This recent discussion in this thread came about largely from a back and forth between myself and @Alex Brumpton

That’s the car booked in for the 22nd to fit the new CCU. It could have been today, but my dealer didn’t have a courtesy car available until the 22nd. I’ll let you guys know how it goes, once I bring it home and charge it with my Zappi.

That's good to hear. I have the car booked in for a service on 19th. If the CCU arrives in time they'll fit it then - hasn't come in yet.

That would be good timing to have both things done on the same day. Hopefully, you get a call soon with some good news.

I was just thinking, we’d all have been in a right muddle if we couldn’t have charged using DC rapid while we waited for delivery. I’d imagine MG UK will have some CCUs in stock in future.

Yes, this long long wait is not good and even though we have another option it has cost a lot rapid charging all the time. That said, MG are not the only ones with CCU issues and it is 3rd party suppliers causing the delays.

The technology is still young, so we will get problems like this.

Though if I had had to hire a car for the last couple of months, I'd be less patient.

Just adding to the thread.

MG4 SR 23plate (loan car while ID3 has a battery module sorted - no issues with Zappi/Eddi/Harvi/solar and Intelligent Octopus)

Same issue as OP with less than full charge delivered o/night.

But with the added excitement of the car alarm going off to announce commencement of charge. Mostly happens with AC charge, but the ‘charge alarm’ went off on a DC charge yesterday.

Anyone else enjoy the alarm going off?

My alarm has never gone off, for any reason but especially not when trying to charge.

Have you tried other AC chargers to rule out a problem with yours?

My zappi is tethered. I’ve tried 2 other ac chargers using the supplied cable. Same issue, with sessions also failing to start.

I’ve just had an ‘interesting’ week on holiday in south wales - chargers not plentiful, but sufficient … if the car wasn’t so flakey.

If it was my own car I would be knocking at the dealerships window, with this v useful thread as backup. As it is I’m likely to be at the hire company expecting a replacement. (Especially with the lane keeping issue on top others have reported)

Interesting that no one else is reporting the alarm going off though #shrug

Finally got my replacement CCU fitted earlier this week. Not had a chance to charge it at home yet since the garage tested it by fully charging the battery to 100% (first battery balance charging for 4 months). Hopefully the problem is fixed (and there is a supply of CCU's in the country).

That sounds promising timE. Let us know how you get on charging it at home. I’m in the same position, as my car hasn’t had a chance to battery balance since October. I think it’ll need a full charge from a low SOC to make sure all the cells are balanced.

Hoping to get mine soon as it has been a long time since a balance now, although fast charging to 97% every so often does seem to help it, I've not had any issues.

I'll be curious at the service to find out if all this fast charging has affected the battery health at all - I suspect not, especially due to the buffer - but will be interesting nonetheless.

Started for about 2 weeks ago, got it checked friday the 9th.

Just recieved this from their system

Interesting that they swapped out your car’s CCU with a “known good CCU” and retested it. Sounds like it was a comprehensive test and I assume they’ve ordered the new part.

The new batches should start arriving this week, hoping I will get one allocated.
Don't want to dampen anyone's spirits, but I've received a call from my dealer to say the arrival of CCUs has been delayed. Earliest in country is 23rd, then delivery etc, etc.
Probably won't be ready now until beginning of March.
I've just had enough. Even though they've given me a courtesy car (non MG), they've had my car since mid December. That's now over 2 months. It's disgusting really.
If they really, REALLY wanted to help customers out (& no CCUs available), they should take them off of brand new forecourt cars & fit those.
In my ownership, my car has now spent 25% sitting at the dealership.
I'm genuinely disgusted with both my dealer & MG.

Did you purchase on PCP ?

If so speak to the finance company, you're paying for something you don’t have at the moment.

I don’t understand why they can’t give you your car while you’re waiting, as you should be able to charge on DC rapid. It sounds very frustrating, Birdy.

I haven’t had a call yet to tell me not to come into my dealership next Wednesday to fit the new CCU.

My opinion is this - if I buy a brand new car, I would expect any faults arising within the first year would be fixed within 2 months. No excuses.

As for DC charging, I have solar power at my property therefore buying an EV is cost effective as well as saving the planet.

Basically, if I bought a Panasonic TV at Asda & it went wrong after a few months, I'd be given another Panasonic TV in replacement or a refund from Asda. It's who I took the contract out with. You wouldn't wait for 2 months with a different brand TV whilst they sorted out what you'd paid for.

The 2015 consumer rights act states
1) I have to give the dealer a chance to fix the vehicle.(I have given 2 chances)
2) I have to give 8 weeks for this process to be done.(I have done this)

The dealer should either fix, refund or replace the vehicle if this hasn't happened.

This is quoted from the motor ombudsman.

I love my MG4 car but I'm not getting what I paid for.

Sorry to sound like a proper whinger, but it's not right
