battery

An electric battery is a source of electric power consisting of one or more electrochemical cells with external connections for powering electrical devices.
When a battery is supplying power, its positive terminal is the cathode and its negative terminal is the anode. The terminal marked negative is the source of electrons that will flow through an external electric circuit to the positive terminal. When a battery is connected to an external electric load, a redox reaction converts high-energy reactants to lower-energy products, and the free-energy difference is delivered to the external circuit as electrical energy. Historically the term "battery" specifically referred to a device composed of multiple cells; however, the usage has evolved to include devices composed of a single cell.Primary (single-use or "disposable") batteries are used once and discarded, as the electrode materials are irreversibly changed during discharge; a common example is the alkaline battery used for flashlights and a multitude of portable electronic devices. Secondary (rechargeable) batteries can be discharged and recharged multiple times using an applied electric current; the original composition of the electrodes can be restored by reverse current. Examples include the lead-acid batteries used in vehicles and lithium-ion batteries used for portable electronics such as laptops and mobile phones.
Batteries come in many shapes and sizes, from miniature cells used to power hearing aids and wristwatches to, at the largest extreme, huge battery banks the size of rooms that provide standby or emergency power for telephone exchanges and computer data centers.
Batteries have much lower specific energy (energy per unit mass) than common fuels such as gasoline. In automobiles, this is somewhat offset by the higher efficiency of electric motors in converting electrical energy to mechanical work, compared to combustion engines.

    Battery Range > 300miles 4.6m/kwH - 481m round trip

481 miles, 4.6 miles per kwh. Cruise control speed set at 60mph. Best bits: It got me there and back - as expected. Other people at the chargers saved my life, told me how to get the charger to work and more importantly told me that to stop the charger you needed to reuse your card (makes sense...

    12v Battery ?

Current car a Kia e Niro (next almost certainly an MG4 !) - a common problem with the Kia relates to the 12v battery which goes flat often without reason for some drivers. Does the MG4 have a separate 12v battery ? I've not seen any comments relating to one, and "search" didn't throw up any answers.

    Battery capacity and poor range

Battery capacity - in a charge from 0 miles to fully charged the battery only consumes a maximum of 32kw.hrs. It should consume close to its rated capacity of 44.5kw.hrs. The results are the same for the MG supplied charger and my own 7kw charger. Add to this the losses in the charging system...

    One week in ….

… and I absolutely love this car. It makes me smile every time I drive it, greeted with “Wassup, dawg?” custom message, and even the idiosyncrasies make me smile as it has its own character. It makes my solar and battery install an even better investment too. Yes the LKA needs an update...

MG ZS EV Mk1 usable battery capacity

Hi there. I drove my Mk1 (2021, charge flap lifts out and up) MG ZS EV down to 4% remaining battery (as reported by the charger when I plugged in). I recharged it to 93%, but the charger only pumped out 35kWh The maths say 44.5kWh x 93% x 4% = 1.65kWh left in battery (93% SoH) 35kWh x 95% =...

    London to Wales on M4?

Planning our first long motorway trip in our SR SE If we leave London on a full charge hope we will get to Bristol or even over the bridge maybe Newport or Cardiff before needing stop. Is it foolish to let the batteries go under 5% if you know there is a services coming up before you get to...

    Battery pre-heating advice

Feeling a little unclear about when it's worth using this feature. I don't have a home charger, heading out to either a 75 kW Osprey or 350 kW Ionity charger in about 30-45 minutes from now, with 15-minute drive to chargers. Is there any benefit of me turning on the battery heating before I...

More mad MG software - battery heating

Today, after returning to the car after shopping, for the first time ever I got a message on the system "Low ambient temperature. Do you want to turn on intelligent battery heating?" What! The ambient temperature was 18°C, but not a peep out of the system when the ambient temperature was 4°C...

Problem with the 12v battery on my MG4

Hi, I have a question about your experience with the 12v battery. The thing is that about a month ago I parked my Mg4 mat home and the next day I could not unlock the car and had to call Mg assistance to help me with this. I suspect that due to some unknown circumstances something like the...

    Another charging lesson learned.

I connected my MG4 to the Zappi charger last night but had trouble getting the Zappi app to talk to the charger. I don't do a lot of mileage so it had been nearly 2 weeks since the last charge. After several goes I thought it had accepted my instructions to charge at the cheap rate and left it...

    Intelligent Battery Heating

I haven’t found much about battery heating from the manual. It seems it’s a good idea to start heating 30 minutes before fast charging to improve the charge speed. And I sometimes get an alert to advise battery heating as the ambient temperature is low. But considering the high load imposed by...

I believe this is done when Equalisation Charging takes place. It seems to also happen under "intelligent Charging" but I have no idea when this is. Gurus , over to you.
