I have the same ongoing issue with longer cables that allow me to use the phone holder ledge since buying an MG Excite in November 2023. I thought it was the older phone, a Samsung Galaxy SG20FE, as tried several cables long enough for use of the ledge.
The only one that worked was a cheap 10 cm one which means I needed to sit the phone in the drink holder which seems silly (By the way, what a stupid design flaw having the USB port under the ledge!!).
I then updated my phone to an S25 which seemed to fix the issue, but a couple of weeks later, has been dropping out again sporadically. This includes for new, high quality, cables and my brand new Galaxy phone!
I've tried the same cables and both old and new phones with our family care, a Mazda, with no issues.
For a while, I tried using a wireless adapter which was great for connectivity but didn't support the phone call function well. Dropped out and horrible time delay. I wonder if it's the same reason.
With all the above variables checked, I suspect my usb port is either dirty, perhaps in the shipping process, or there's some other issue with the port or the car's AA/CarPlay system. It has been a problem since the day I bought it.
I'll get it checked when I get my first 2 yr service in November. I've requested a service for this issue in the past but they want to send me a long way from where I live as the local dealer doesn't seem to want the look at it which is too hard for work reasons.
Otherwise I really like the car
