Android auto keeps disconnecting and I have to pull the cable out of phone or usb socket to re establish a connection. This only lasts for 10/15 minutes before it disconnects again.
Does anyone know of a way to obtain a lasting connection.
Thanks.

I never had any issues with wired AA, but I subsequently fitted a wireless AA dongle merely for convenience. After setting a 30 sec start-up delay (to allow the car's Infotainment screen to boot up) the setup has worked flawlessly.

Others having wired AA connection issues have mooted that the root of the problem is the cable ... a good quality data-capable cable is needed. Anker cables (especially shorter ones) seem to get a good rep.

i have the same dongle, how can i set 30 sec start up delay?

Plug the device into a USB power supply (not the car) and then connect to the device's WiFi on your phone/PC. Then you call up the set-up page in a browser. Check the leaflet that came with the device for the IP address - I can't find mine right now. It's something like 192.168.1.200

I'm surprised at Siteguru , this was happening to me and his advice was to make sure the Android Auto cache on the phone was regularly cleared. This worked for me!

I don't remember giving such advice. I've never knowingly cleared the AA cache on my phones (other than when I -rarely - use a utility that clears all caches on my phone). 🤷‍♂️

I could have sworn it was yourself? Perhaps one of us is going 🤪🤪🤪. Still it was good advice whoever parted with it.

I may have offered such advice in relation to iSmart ... when someone is having issues with apps on Android then clearing the cache is standard debug protocol. :) But this hasn't generally been the issue in relation to AA.

Thank you, it was 192.168.200.1. There is no difference for me, it worked even without startup delay. I thought it will fix the bright maps problem so i would not have to switch the light off and then back to Auto every time.

I believe the problem is usually the cable. I know your cable work at home etc etc but buy couple of good/very-good cables from google etc and then see if it still disconnects.

Nah - it doesn't fix that. That's an AA issue whereby GMaps via AA doesn't respect the theme setting. i.e. I have mine set to dark, and when using GMaps on my phone it is dark but when connecting to the car via AA it defaults to light theme. Toggling the lights sets it to dark, and thereafter it remains dark (until the next time I use the car and connect to AA). 🤷‍♂️

I have the same ongoing issue with longer cables that allow me to use the phone holder ledge since buying an MG Excite in November 2023. I thought it was the older phone, a Samsung Galaxy SG20FE, as tried several cables long enough for use of the ledge.

The only one that worked was a cheap 10 cm one which means I needed to sit the phone in the drink holder which seems silly (By the way, what a stupid design flaw having the USB port under the ledge!!).

I then updated my phone to an S25 which seemed to fix the issue, but a couple of weeks later, has been dropping out again sporadically. This includes for new, high quality, cables and my brand new Galaxy phone!

I've tried the same cables and both old and new phones with our family car, a Mazda, with no issues.

For a while, I tried using a wireless adapter which was great for connectivity but didn't support the phone call function well. Dropped out and horrible time delay. I wonder if it's the same reason.

With all the above variables checked, I suspect my usb port is either dirty, perhaps in the shipping process, or there's some other issue with the port or the car's AA/CarPlay system. It has been a problem since the day I bought it.

I'll get it checked when I get my first 2 yr service in November. I've requested a service for this issue in the past but they want to send me a long way from where I live as the local dealer doesn't seem to want the look at it which is too hard for work reasons.

Otherwise I really like the car 😅

Can’t you route the cable up through the ledge? I have a trophy but I would suspect you get the same pass through holes left and right of the rubber pad on the SE?

Try a little USB powered hub, sometimes called a USB splitter. The short tail on it that plugs in to the car, is in fact better than your 10cm cable as it is hard wired at one end. You can then have a longer cable from the hub to the phone.

This has worked for several people.

Thanks! Ok, so this is a common issue for MG4s? Haven't seen anything other than this post I'm responding to in the forum?

I'd have thought that just adds another weak point but I'm no tech head and will give it a try.

Would just a short single extender/converter - 1 USB to 1 C work? Or would it need to be one with several outlet connections?

Anything that is an 'active' device. It needs to receive USB messages from the car and then send them on to the phone. In effect you now have 2 short USB cable runs from the car to the phone, instead of the one long one (one cable from car to dashboard, connector, cable from dashboard to car.

Some single port extension cables contain powered electronics but are on a 2 or 3m lead lead so probably worse than a simple dumb cable. They usually have a lump on the end for the electronics. We need the shortest lead possible from the dashboard to the hub/splitter.

Someone posted a link to a USB splitter all in one little module, so no lead at all. I'll have search of the forum and post it if I find it.

Have you tried a short Anker cable? This make seems to be all many people need, and in our case it fixed it for one of our phones and improved things on the other.

I failed to find the post with a product link that I was looking for, but across all the MG models many people mention using USB hubs. One such post linked to

Personally I don't like the idea of physically stressing the USB connector by having a lump sticking out and a connector on that. I would most likely try one of the lightweight cable ones for about a fiver off Amazon. Search for USB hub 2 port.

Let us know of any product you try that fails or works.
