MG Charging port adapter Mg4 Trophy

Hi

So i bought myself this in the attempt to basically turn my car into a rolling powerbank after watching a youtube video of a guy using it to power a hoover however, it appears I need an adapter :TKSE Portable EV Charging Adapter - IEC 62196 Type 2 Male to UK Plug, 220V AC Power: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

Im getting really confused on what I need could anyone point me in the right direction for the adapter or another plug please?

You want to be able to plug in something like an extension lead and then a power board so you can plug in appliances such as a hot water jug and a lamp?

I have a similar adaptor, all you need to do is plug this into the charge part of your car then go into your car and press the battery bar for the battery settings then select discharge, you will then be able to take power from the adapter as you would a normal three pin socket, when you are finished you will have to stop the discharge function so that you can remove the adapter.

Is there a setting switch on the adaptor itself? there is on mine, I have to set my adapter to the Chinese setting to match the communication protocol of the car, If i don't do this the adaptor simply does not work.

Ditto. I think I paid £25 for mine two years ago and it works perfectly. Here it is in action at breakfast time in a car park in Lochaber.

It's not that clear in the photo, but the white 13A plug and lead are attached to a four-plug adapter, which is lying on the table behind the kettle, and the kettle is plugged into that.

Exactly and my dad's going through chemo so I'm working from the car a lot in the hospital so I need a place to charge.

In @Rolfe's case the extension is a standard 4-way plug extender lead, available from virtually everywhere. The key part though is the V2L adapter .. example:

Oh I see. What you have is type 2 "male" which makes it the same as the charging port on the car, so of course it won't fit. Presumably the one I have that does fit has female sockets. I didn't actually know they made them like the one you have. (Maybe you could plug it into your type 2 charger to turn it into a 3-pin socket if you wanted???)

You may be able to exchange it, but it's not exactly high finance.

A common use case for this would be using a type 2 charger to charge up batteries in an RV, rather than use an EV as a power source.

All the images show this usage, but very badly.

The reason for the lower price is the fact that it has the "universal socket" design. This does not meet UK regs for a socket. A very good write-up of the issues can be found here

The Plugs and Sockets, etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994 control the selling of mains sockets in the UK. Universal sockets do not meet the requirements specified…

I didn't realise they were available without the universal socket (and I didn't realise the universal socket had safety issues). I did get mine from eBay as far as I remember. I've not had any issues with it, but perhaps I should retire it and get one with a proper three-pin socket from Amazon.

The one I ordered last year (not the current eBay link I posted) had 3-pin socket but came with a separate "universal" adaptor; mine was £15 from memory. There are quite a few 3-pin ones on eBay and in many cases, the sellers are the same on eBay and on Amazon...
