MG4 Trophy map update – BEWARE

The first quarter of 2025 is done but MG still doesn't provide the fresh map update. It's still 2023 Q4!

Dear MG, when you are going to provide us the fresh map update?

This is precisely why I use Android Auto for navigation instead. At least Google updates their maps occasionally!

I specifically searched for built in navigation and OTA in a car. Now finally gave up since my city in 2 years is completely revamped (not uncommon in the Netherlands) so now the car navi is useless.

Trying Android Auto to avoid being sent the wrong way down a one way street or a bicycle path.

I actually don't understand the MG behavior. They uses HERE map service in built-in navigation system. HERE regularly updates own maps (see theirs site or android app), so MG can get and release fresh map version at any time, but they does NOT do it.

Would we be able to get the raw here maps and see how to wrap them for MG? Would be a tool that is worth building.

I thought I would attempt asking MG's customer services to find out if there was any date on the horizon for a new map update, I received this somewhat unhelpful response (and incorrect given that map updates don't need to be done by a dealer).

We have received you online contact request regarding map updates.

With regard to the MG 4 this vehicle is updated at the MG approved repair centres.

As customer service we are not technical-ly trained and information like updates are not always shared with us or this reason.

I would have to advise that you contact your local MG dealer to get this confirmation on the latest update and book in if required.

With updates, this is a chargeable service unless the update is required for warranty repair in which case warranty would cover the cost.

We have not been made aware of any updates coming to our vehicles of yet but staying in contact with the dealership is your best chance of receiving this news.

I've replied to say they're incorrect, and asked if they can escalate it within their team internally.

Funny enough, I installed this one before the car was at the dealer in January. Before the service, some new roads close to my home were not visible. After the service they were... But it is stil the same map spec

When running the update, can you use either USB socket? I would expect C to be faster. I use the C socket for a memory stick with music on it.

Think is HAS to be the USB-A. I've only ever used that one anyway.

Pretty sure the USB-C is only for music, video etc

Maybe the base navigation software has been updated and reads files not previously available to it
