Trophy/Luxury 22/23 FICM loading guide

Yes, as the title suggests, it applies to MG4 Luxury 2023.
Yes, these are multilingual updates that also work in French : many languages are integrated.
Merci de ta réponse. Je vais tenter la mise a jour de l' info divertissement en R63 week-end prochain.

Thanks for your reply. I will try to update the entertainment info in R63 next weekend.

R63 wasn't supposed to be updated stand-alone.
The update needs MCU upgrade from SIPS.
If you update only the MPU (R63), you're going to face some issues...

ok, I thought we could do the infotainment update in R63 via USB 😓. So I couldn't do the update myself

Yes, you can perform the update from USB, but R63 update require MCU update from SIPS
You're going to face some issues if you don't upgrade MCU to 68.3.7.0

At the moment my information on SIPS is rather limited.
Do you know where I can learn more about SIPS and the equipment needed to use SIPS?

@haloweenhamster Does the lack of MCU in R63 impact only the programmable charge limit via the car, or are other functions affected as well?
I just bought a 2022 MG4 Luxury, and it has R24.

Haven’t ever paid much attention to the weather app on mine but just noticed it’s not displaying any data - is that a R63 specific thing? Infotainment update was installed correctly using both USB and SIPS.

This is for the entertainment display in the middle of the dash (radio)

Easiest way to see if this is relevant to you is by going to settings, system, entertainment system version and looking at the SWI number
This Guide is for SWI68
The SE/Excite is a different process, as is any 2024 variant
The Essence model is the same process but the files aren't currently available

Files can be obtained from here

Go to settings, system the current version will be displayed
Eg. SWI68-29958-1300R63

Tap entertainment system version 5 times and a login box will appear
View attachment 33762

Enter 200519 to give access to engineer mode
View attachment 33758

Product info. will show all versions
The only one you'll be interested in is the FICM MCU version eg 68.4.7.0
If it's lower than 68.4.3.0 then you'll need to update it, if it's higher then leave it as it is as 68.4.3.0 is the newest available for USB update

Extract the zip on to a USB drive, FAT32 is recommended by MG but NTFS & exFAT have been used successfully, only have MG files on the drive (tested with other updates ok like TBOX)

The USB drive should have a folder called AVN_MPU with 1 file inside usb_OTA_update.zip, for the MCU you'll also have VIPimage.bin & MD5_check.txt not in a folder on the drive

Plug USB drive in to either USB A (port 2) or USB C (port 1) at the front

In the engineer mode select USB upgrade then AVN MPU, the car needs to be woken up (sit on drivers seat with the key), but not in ready (don't press brake pedal), if it's already in ready then open & close driver's door
Update takes 10 mins

If MCU update is required then USB update then select infotainment system MCU
Looks like this whilst updating

Thanks for the guide, I am on a very old software version R30 on my 2023 trophy.
I will have a go at this later in the week when I am off work and have more time, I am currently on:-
SWI68-29958-1300R30

I would love to go for the R63 but I rely on the battery slider so I will go R59

I updated my 2023 Trophy by USB stick today and all went well.

I was on SWI68-29958-1300R30 & FICM MCU version 68.3.3.9

I am now on SWI-29958-1300R59 & FICM MCU version 68.4.3.0

I would have updated to the latest R63 version but the battery charge % slider issue requires a config update via SIPS at the dealer, I used the PDF guide at the beginning of this post which details the installation of the R63 version, I used this to install the R59 version, the procedure is exactly the same, 1st it will update your MCU to version 68.4.3.0 , then it will reboot and then you can then install the MPU update (R59) as described in the second part of the PDF guide, the only thing I did not do as per the guide was the factory reset at the end, this is probably just a precaution & I really do not like setting things up again from scratch :-D if you get any problems after the update then go back in and do a factory reset.

Both updates take about 5 minutes, along the way you will get warnings and yellow triangles on the drivers panel behind the steering wheel, I suppose this is normal as the systems are being updated.

Attached is a pic of the directory structure of the memstick, there is also a copy of the "usb_ota_update.zip" file inside the "AVN_MPU" folder as different versions of the software that you are updating from expect it on the root or inside the "AVN_MPU" folder, having it in both places avoids any issues.

Thanks to Haloweenhamster for the guide & files.
