Batch of CCU units apparently due on 14th February.

You should still be able to charge using a DC rapid charger if it is the same as most of the others that have failed, problem is the significantly larger cost to charge.

Did not want to start a new thread - I only have a granny charger but my Phase 1 Trophy may have a similar problem. The granny charger stops charging after a few seconds if the car does not have a max current set on the charging screen. I can charge at 8amps and below. The granny charger stops with the indicator lights for charging and fault both blinking indicating an overcurrent error. I will test on a podpoint charger tomorrow to see what it does without a current limit.

I was hoping I wouldn't need to be posting back here. But the update I had in December seems to not have worked.

It was fine for the whole of December, but last Wednesday night it stated charge complete on my zappi again after only adding 4 kWh. I was hoping it was a fluke, as it didn't happen for the rest of last week, or over the weekend. But it's happened everynight since Tuesday night. The worst being last night, it did it three times. I woke up at 2am and thought I'd check it. It said charge complete and had only added 3 kWh. I reset the charge and got it going again, I couldn't get back to sleep as it was on my mind, and it happened another two times over a 2 hour period. Informed MG this morning, they seemed very concerned about it and wanted it in as soon as possible. Booked in 5th Feb. They wanted it in on Monday but didn't have a courtesy car.

Hopefully they diagnose that it needs a new CCU.

Further to my granny charging issue, can someone confirm that the 2 pins at the top of the charging socket have different depths. I believe these are used for communication and can understand why they could be different but just wanted to make sure.

Yes that is normal. The CP pin is the last one to make contact when you plug in.

And this is why it is suggested to hold a CCS2 plug in the charge port whilst the DC charger negotiates with the car to start a charge ... with the weight of a DC charge cable it is feasible for the plug to slightly pull out at the top and lose the control pin connection. :)

I'm also having these issues since delivery of my MG4 EV on Tuesday. The dealer suggested getting my Lease company `to refere it a software update issue, now that i've seen this thread i'll stop pissing about all night with it and see if I get anywhere with them sorting it with an update etc. I have to say that the car software seems slow and buggy and well short of fit for pupose so far.

UPDATE - still waiting for a date from MG to look at my software issues (unreliable charging and no exterior temp display on the dash screen, which I believe confirms that it's a dodgy software version?), but I have installed a replacement EV charger (KHONS 7w wall charger) and it seems to be a lot more reliable generally, although the whole process is still flakey; as much to do with the App as it is the cars' on board software. But I can now charge up when I want to.

Something went wrong when I tried to merge that thread in to the existing one about AC charging not working, and I can't figure out how to fix it! Gimme a moment!

OK, all the non-charging posts are in the non-charging thread, but I'm still confused. I thought I was merging yet another new thread in with the existing one, but I can't see the new posts.

If anyone has any I idea what happened, please tell me and I'll try again to fix it.

ETA again: I think we're sort of OK now, apologies to anyone who has been messed around.

they must have already tried any software options. Managed to speak to service manager and get some clarity. MG head office approval is required if a part costs over £1000, but was assured this normally happens with 24hrs. They can then order the part which could the tricky part as it may not be a “stock” item. They then have to schedule the repair in.
And if all of us with problems with the CCU (I have similar problem with Phase 1 Trophy) there will be a shortage of these items. My car has been in the garage for 3 weeks and have not heard anything yet, but I do have a courtesy car, same type so not as bad but this whole MG approval thing is rubbish and I'm not sure how other car manufacturers deal with this but MG seem to be dragging their feet, poor customer support :-(

Mine was approved within 24 hours. The big wait is for the part to arrive.

Spoke to the garage today, yes they may take 24 hours to respond, but MG UK keep asking for one test at a time, so ensure the plug is held in the car, 24 hours later another single test, and another, how is this time effective. I'm not normally Mr despondent but this is death by a thousand cuts

Finally, the garage contacted me and stated it was the CCU and that would be replaced, quelle surprise! The replacement would be available/fitted on Friday (2nd Feb). Will see if that is the case as others have stated that the spare CCU's will not be in the country until the 3rd. Hope this fixes it

Sorry to hear that. All I can say is my garage did all the software updates and tests they needed to in about 2 hours and with my submitted information they were able to send a single case to MG that was approved for CCU replacement the following business day.

That's good to hear.

Mine hasn't arrived yet but I am booked in for 19th for a service anyway and they do this at the same time if the part is available by then.
