charger
A battery charger, or recharger, is a device that stores energy in a battery by running an electric current through it. The charging protocol (how much voltage or current for how long, and what to do when charging is complete) depends on the size and type of the battery being charged. Some battery types have high tolerance for overcharging (i.e., continued charging after the battery has been fully charged) and can be recharged by connection to a constant voltage source or a constant current source, depending on battery type. Simple chargers of this type must be manually disconnected at the end of the charge cycle. Other battery types use a timer to cut off when charging should be complete. Other battery types cannot withstand over-charging, becoming damaged (reduced capacity, reduced lifetime), over heating or even exploding. The charger may have temperature or voltage sensing circuits and a microprocessor controller to safely adjust the charging current and voltage, determine the state of charge, and cut off at the end of charge.
Chargers may elevate the output voltage proportionally with current to compensate for impedance in the wires.A trickle charger provides a relatively small amount of current, only enough to counteract self-discharge of a battery that is idle for a long time. Some battery types cannot tolerate trickle charging; attempts to do so may result in damage. Lithium-ion batteries cannot handle indefinite trickle charging.
Slow battery chargers may take several hours to complete a charge. High-rate chargers may restore most capacity much faster, but high rate chargers can be more than some battery types can tolerate. Such batteries require active monitoring of the battery to protect it from overcharging. Electric vehicles ideally need high-rate chargers. For public access, installation of such chargers and the distribution support for them is an issue in the proposed adoption of electric cars.
So after 4 months of reasonably happy driving with the MG4, what I feared might happen has happened.
Went into my garage this morning, it hadn’t charged overnight and the cable was stuck locked in the charging port. None of the usual lights round the charger like the car wasn’t recognising it...
Hi
I myself have not been able to use tesla open for and I see in previous threads that others have at least previously had problems with this. I also have problems with some incharge fast chargers. The car have received the latest software without that helping.
Any one else still have problems...

About four times a year, we visit the wife's mother in rural west Wales and public chargers are sadly lacking. We have time to use the granny charger at MIL's but will need an extension lead to reach the car. Thinking of this extension lead, any thoughts...
So just ordered Ohme pro charger with 8 mtr cable so I can park anywhere on my drive. Been looking at octopus intelligent as they all seem to talk to each other and it appears you can charge at a 10pkwh rate overnight......3p per mile YES PLEASE🤣. Anyone know if I would get charged 10p per kw...
ZS Long Range 2022 Trophy Connect
Hi all. I’ve had issues releasing my charger, mostly due to scheduling issues wanting to extend the time period.
Anyway, I discovered this button today that looks like a padlock. It released my charger immediately.
This post is really a follow up to my previous hit & miss charger problem post of 5th Feb but I thought with the latest info & a lot of forum uncertainty re charging that I would start a new post.
My first visit to Luscombes Leeds had the charger working at that time so they couldn't fault it &...
Hello All
We have a new EV and have been charging at home most of the time. We can limit charging by the time limit on the app, which is the cheap rate between 9pm-7am. On a couple of occasions the charging got to high for our liking. Is there an additional way to limit the charge to a max...
I have had a MG4 for a week. Need to get moving with an ev car charging point. I have a hive charger + installation on order. But if I went for another setup. Do other charging points come with an app (similar to hive) so I could set up charging times etc. I don’t want purchase a charger (will...
Ok so I have recently ordered my first EV (MG4) and want to know what EV charging points people can recommend me for installation at home. Obviously i want something that charges quickest and has an easy to use ap
I have just bought a preface lift MG5. We have 11 solar panels, but no battery storage. Currently we are on a Bulb variable rate tariff but get the rebate on what goes back into the grid. Apart from a regular fortnightly 100 mile journey we very largely do only a few short trips a week. I have...
Hi there,
Met a couple in the garden centre car park who had a 22’ Trophy ZS EV.
When we asked why Charger they had, they replied that they have charged from a outside 2 pin socket with their granny charger ever since they got it, and only charge on public chargers when needed.
What are...
Has anyone had experience of using Co Charger?
It is an app that allows you to book a charging slot at someones HOME charger and you pay them via the app when the charge is completed.
You pay by the hour but most are equivalent to around 35p per KW, which is much cheaper than all other public...
Sorry if this has been mentioned before .
I've had this charger installed a year ago and wasn't too bothered at first about scheduled charges as it took them a while to get smart meter picking up signal .
When I did try a scheduled charge I found it wouldn't work.Must have contacted BP Pulse...
Hi all.
I'll apologize upfront as I believe this has been discussed before but I am really struggling to understand it. I'm about to order an Ohme Home Pro through Octopus so that I can get their Intelligent tarrif. I have been told that the charger will work with any car but only certain...
This has happened twice now. Used a CCS rapid charger at Oxford services and it failed to initiate the charge, once I had managed to get the charger out and was going to move to the other machine I saw the Message on the the dash HVB (High Voltage Battery) cut off. Can’t drive the car. Googled...
What has happened to Geniepoint charging network. Within 20 mile radius of my home,15 out of the their 21 charging points are not working at all and of the other 6 only 3 have working CCS 50KW working units. A recent survey posted on line found that less than 50% of all companies in the...
I was due to have a Zappi supplied and fitted on Monday, but my installer called today to say that because of the change in regs in December last year there's no stock of units that comply. The manufacturer Myenergi look like they're quoting a 4 week lead time on the Zappi, so it seems...
