Issue with AC charging/New CCU fitted (Phase One SE LR)

Same problem here. Drops out after 1-2%. Initially on home Zappi, but also on local AC charger. Fine on DC. Looks like hardware since we had it serviced on Monday! Apparently there is a service recall for some of the software, but not infotainment. Booked in for 9/4/24.

Had the service done today, mentioned the problems with scheduling and charge limit ignored and they have installed a couple of patches related to those two issues. They say it's now working as it should. I haven't had the opportunity to try it yet though.

I’ll be interested to know if the patches fix the fault, Talky. I’ve just tried charging the car to 80% from a starting point of 70% and it has just ignored the limit and went to 88% which is when I unplugged it. I’ll see how you get on and probably get these patches when my car goes in for its first service.

Foxy is going in to the garage on 13th of this month to investigate her ignoring the charge limit.

The garage said that they couldn't see any patches on their systems to fix for this - but also that MG have a whole load of patches that the dealers can't look at or review, but in response to a technical case they may well get asked to apply them.

Seems like the whole system is far too closed even for the dealers - why the hell shouldn't they see all the patches available? I suppose MG want to stop them asking for stuff on customer's behalf, thus increasing warranty claims.

Hi all

New here - sorry if I'm missing something.
MG4 Long Range Trophy Edition purchased June 2023. We had an Ohme Home Pro charger installed about 3 weeks after purchase, worked perfectly until September. Hasn't worked since. Car charges fine at rapid/fast chargers, but will just cut out and stop charging after a minute or so on the slow charger. It will try again if left plugged in after an hour or so, but stops again after a minute. Ohme looked into it and advise overvoltage so we were back & forth with the electricity supplier. Last week they did some work and say they reduced the voltage, tried the car again but didn't work still.

At the weekend we tried a different slow charger in a car park, and had the same issue that the car just stopped itself charging and didn't kick back in unless I did it through the app, and then stopped again after a minute or so.

This was the first time we'd tried an alternative slow charger to the home charger.

Have booked the car in with the dealer I purchased from, but wondered if anyone else has experienced this or has any suggestions etc?

I've merged your post into this thread about failure of AC charging, as it seems you have the same as others have experienced. The answer seems to be a replacement CCU unit. Have a read up-thread for more detail.

In with the dealer on 22nd March and will get a van from work to cover me in the mean time if it's got to be in for months (but hopefully not!).

Hi @blue232, Yeah, it sounds exactly like the trouble I and other members in this thread have experienced. When you go to your dealers, they will first try performing some software updates which may or may not work. I had to impress upon my dealer that slow charging needed to be tested for a good amount of time to make sure, not just a quick fifteen minutes or so. Once you get past that stage, fitting a new charge control unit should only take a day, however those of us who have had a replacement fitted are unable to limit a charge to 80% or schedule a charge. @Talky Toaster has had a software patch installed and reports that charging is working normally now. It might be a good idea to ask if the technician can check the charge on the replacement CCU is able to stop at 80%. If not, then you’ll need the patch. Worth doing at the same time I reckon.

I seem to recall that it will also stop charging on the granny charger so it would be worth trying that to confirm it is the CCU that has failed.

I got a rental out of MG, so dealer still has my car, hope the cost of the rental car will help speed things up. saying that no fun being back in a petrol car, got a MG hs, to big and under powered

So I have rung the dealer, now at the dealers for 2 months awaiting a CCU, it seems the CCU is in and going to be fitted this week, here's hoping ?

Got car back today, CCU changed, tried to charge, seemed ok over short period, have set up for a 100% overnight to balance etc. R46 on the infotainment system, good large buttons on the aircon page. not gone too far into it but all seems good. Time will tell ?

Oh, ATM I am looking at balancing and I use a zappi so the charge is regulated by that, I will have a go another time on that little number

Charged to 100% overnight, quite a lot of low charge after the 7kW boost, so I'm guessing that that was the balancing bit, all went well and I assume now that the CCU change and all the updates have now given me a battery EV car that I paid for, maybe!
