TPMS knows which wheels are at the front & theoretically which is left and which is right but what about the rear wheels?
Rear wheels travel at different speeds around bends and corners and the car knows when it is going left or right (it has accelerometers) so can determine which wheel is tracking the inside vs outside of the turn/curve.

I asked them to so I hope so. The pressures were all over the place when I picked the car up so I'll check today & drop the pressure on one tyre, go for a drive & see what happens. Based on their performance I am not hopeful.

Once I get this sorted out I will not be going back. Lismore is the closest MG dealer and they are a lot smaller and don't have several other brands to look after. It is a 240km round trip to GKing & 180km to Lismore MG.

From where I'm sitting I'm just getting the giggles at the idea of there being a car dealership of any sort in Lismore.

It is 2 weeks since I had my 2 year 40km service & I finally got a response from Geoff King about software updates. They now say MG has advised that no software updates are to be done at a regular service interval. When I booked my MG4 in "ALL SOFTWARE UPDATES" was specified in the detailed service items list and it seems others have had the updates done.

Below is what they have now told me.

"We are not permitted by MG to carry out software updates during a service unless there is a specific symptom or issue with the vehicle, not just when a request is made to do so. Please see the below bulletin from MG:"

Software updates should only be performed when required for a specific symptom or issue as outlined in the relevant technical document. It is no longer necessary to perform all available software updates every time a vehicle is presented to service. Instead, software updates will be applied selectively based on the issue the vehicle is experiencing and the corresponding technical guidance (generally in the form of a Technical Bulletin or Campaign).

This is pretty poor and after the fact when I booked the car in.

So what discount off the service charge are they going to give you? After all, the software updates were part of the service at the time of making the contract (i.e. booking the car in for service), so if they're unilaterally varying the contract then you're entitled to a discount. :)

I think the fix for the software updates is just never to have anymore in Australia.
Pretty sure they moved on to newer cars now and we never see anything again.

There was no discount and my car was with them all day from 7:50 am till 4:45 pm. It was supposed to be ready at 3:30pm. I have written back to them requesting them to honour the original agreement as per the service statement when booking on line. I'll post their response when I get it.

Below is the text of my Email

Software updates have been part of the standard 2 year 40,000km service for at least a year now and 2 friends who both own MG4s and purchased them from Geoff King MG and had their 2 year service done not long ago, both had the software updates done. Also when I booked my MG 4 in through the on line booking system it itemised all of the checks and service items and one of these was "All software updates".

The main complaint from MG4 owners is the Lane Keep Assist which is too aggressive and also caused problems on poorly or unmarked country roads. Also the ability to turn LKA off required 4 steps so a ELK button was added to the drop down shortcut menu. The Adaptive Cruise Control was modified to increment in 1km/h steps not 5km/h as before. I did not think I would have to complain given the reports on the forums on MGEVS.com of which I am a member that these updates were done at the standard 40,000 km service. The Detailed 40,000km service schedule was published on the MG and Geoff King websites when I purchased my MG4 in September 2023. I copied this to my computer for future reference and later it was removed from the website. See attached.

Also at the time of purchase I was promised that an update to the Satellite Navigation system adding "EV Trip Planning Charger routing" was imminent (October 2023) and would be applied to my vehicle at its scheduled service. This was listed in the brochure from MG. A copy of this brochure is attached. The latest brochure does not have this as it is now standard.

So given that these things were listed as standard procedures and have been applied to other owners MG 4s at the scheduled service at Geoff King Motors I think it is incumbent upon Geoff King Motors to honour these published service functions.

Please let me know when I can bring my MG4 in to get these software updates completed.

The MG4 models on sale in Australia are still the same as the originals. The new blob less powerful models are not available here. The software updates are now standard on all the new MG4s.

Please note anyone who has a 2023 model (and early 2024) which hasn't been updated that there is a tech bulletin specific for AEB, but probably also handles LKA
Bulletin “# AS-TEC-07022024-01”
Subject “MG4 AEB Software Update”
Author “Technical Dept”
Date “7th February 2024”

I picked this up from Neerav Bhatt's site https://www.bhatt.id.au/blog/australia-mg4-software-update-aims-to-fix-phantom-braking-issues/. Thanks to Neerav for finding this and another for the warped motor cover. I asked Neerav if they are published, but it seems you can only get them from friendly MG management or perhaps dealers. It seems that you need to identify a problem and the dealer can then find a tech bulletin and then the software can be updated. To be honest I haven't tried this one on them, but it's going back next Monday for charging light investigation and the motor cover fix. Verbally they have said they can do an update, will see what can be done armed with the tech bulletin. They may only update the one module and not the infotainment. I believe there should be a tech bulletin on Bluetooth disconnects, but to honest mine hasn't disconnected for a long time. FYI - I have never had a false AEB stop, but my wife has and always in the same location. Of course they will update if you pay them.

If anyone on this site in Aus has had updates done based on tech bulletins (as this seems to be the way), please let us know

If you look on this forum UK cars have had lots of updates. In OZ nothing
At least my AEB was fixed last service with an update. It was dangerous.
I do not expect anymore updates

The new MG4 urban or what ever not here although the S5 software is a lot newer.
Our other EV’s are Teslas they always getting Over the Air updates, work mate has a 2015 model S he still getting updates.

MG software is like Windows XP level
All the updates needed are software 0 and 1’s they tooo stupid to work out a easy way to update. I mean how hard to add a button like S5 to save driver settings.
Imagine every iphone update you had to take your phone into Apple for a day.

Thats the reason why the service places do not want to do it anymore, service guy said they have limited laptops and updates fail a lot. It costs them time having someone watch it.
Not really service places fault software is crap

MG need to pull their fingers out when the ZS EV was released not as much around. MG4 a great driving car although a lot other cars around now.

The fact that every drive i need to turn on One Pedal Drive which not a safety feature just crap.

New member @Kenno has a relevant post above. It's possible that it may not come up as a new post, so I'm pointing it out here.

Yes i picked up a dealer demo in feb it had not been done.
To check it on the latest if you can change setting to Low and it stays next start up.
Seems that proves it done
mine defaulted back to medium and had problems in narrow streets

Thanks for pointing out Neeravs blog @Kenno . I'd seen that a long time ago and forgotten about it. Anyway Geoff King have responded to my email & they are going to do the updates in November, I think reluctantly as they whinged about the cost to them. Anyway I pointed out that it was on the list when I booked it in & that is when contract terms are agreed.

They need to be whinging to MG Australia about the process, not the customers with whom they made service promises.

I got some update(s) which changed LKA and cruise functions but not all, the infotainment system was not updated.

I have specified both the Infotainment system (Route & charger Planner) & the ELK button on the quick drop down menu, AEB & LKA updates.

SAIC made a rod for their own back. The initial design (Royal Academy of Arts) and Engineering (UK MG/SAIC team) did a great job & then let down with some inexplicable but likely cost saving decisions like the software, no rear seat interior light, no front boot, no ability to save Custom settings etc by SAIC in China.. OTA was even designed in but probably due to the outdated software structure never implemented

The MG rep that gave us a presentation on the MG5 and IM 5 & IM 6 last night at the mthly Aeva meeting in Adelaide, all but confirmed the save function for driver preferences would be included in a future update for the MG4 as it is an update for the MG5 and the IM series .....

Apparently, next mth the IM series will get over the air updates, but not the MG4 and no mention regarding the MG5.

He did say the MG4 updates were one of the major complaints within the service dept and they were considering putting an apprentice on in the new yr who would be trained in the computer side of the multi brand servicing side of things to do the updates and chase computer related problems ...... I can't imagine the pain that poor sole will go through getting his 4 yr apprenticeship completed, but the pay he could demand afterwards would possibly be worth it .....
