Hello,
My MG4 will not charge, when connected to pod point it says my vehicle is charged, but it is on 12%. It has no pre-set charging settings, and it will not connect on cars dashboard. Has anyone else came across this problem?
I have tried:
-rebooting pod point from the mains
-scheduling a charge time and turning that back off again
-plugging in charger from car to pod and vise versa
-manual charging from app, pod point app, and from car dashboard
-charging from car unlocked and locked
-turning pod off from app and turning it back on again
-checking for updates from all mentioned above

My last resort is rebooting the cars system but I don't want to start messing with the electrics of the car it's self

Any help appreciated!

Does it charge using a granny EVSE (charge point) or can you get to a rapid DC charger?

I can usually charge from granny and rapid, but I haven't tried a different charge point just yet, I think I will test this tomorrow to see if I am still having the same issue.

One thing others have reported regards scheduled charging. Make sure it is turned off in both the car, and in the app. Each one acts independently.

Since receiving my car in November charging has been an on and off thing. ( pun intended) . I plug it in to either a pod point public charger or use the granny charger for24 hours. Now it seems not to want to charge either via the public pod point or via the granny charger. just says “ charger connected—not charging” it will take a charge for say 5-15 minutes then I walk away and it stops adding after maybe 2%. Am I doing something wrong or is there something I can do before taking it to the dealer?

Does it charge OK on a DC rapid charger?

Does your car have a 3-phase onboard charger? (Look at the charge port ... a 3-phase one will have pins in the L2 and L3 holes).

It doesn’t charge on the Podpoint 22kw charger. I haven’t tried the superfast chargers. It also doesn’t seem to want to charge on the simple household current charger( granny charger) the cables are new, the port is clean and not obstructed. Had to have the MG/AA recovery and they have hauled it off to original dealer. They seem to think it’s software related but I was sur[rises I hadn’t seen another link to this problem on the post.

There is a known fault which seems only to affect phase 1 NMC 64 kwh cars (that's the SE LR and the Trophy) which don't have rear windscreen wipers. It shows up as increasing reluctance and eventually flat refusal to charge on any AC charger. The cars still charge on DC. The cure is a replacement CCU module. You may have that, if you don't have the rear windscreen wiper.

Did the AA carry out any investigations? That is, connect a laptop to the car to see if there were any fault codes?

Did they suggest disconnecting the 12V battery to try to reset the car's individual modules?

I don't believe the UK ER has an onboard 3-phase charger but that does not exclude a failed CCU.

EDIT: Added the UK because other countries' ERs may well have 3-phase onboard chargers.

My apologies, I didn't notice that @docmjl was driving an ER. To the best of my knowledge that CCU issue has never affected an ER. Not that it's impossible, but it makes it much less likely.

Many thanks. Those are very helpful points and questions which I will use to quiz the service people should it prove to be a GORK problem (God Only Really Knows). AA fellow did all of above to answer Martin. I’m not sure what a CCU is ( Cardiac Care Unit ? ) or an ER ( Emergency Room ?) , As far as it tells me- there is no rear wiper so the writing may be unclear:-) it’s a Trophy Long Range 64Kw 2024. I’ll report back if anyone thinks this may be useful to other members.

Ah, you have the wrong car in your profile. ER stands for Extended Range, and it's the extra-large battery model that was released later than the original SE and Trophy models. There was never a phase one version of the ER. You need to change your profile to Trophy LR.

If there is no rear wiper then the car is a phase one model, and I have some reservations that the 2024 date you have may not be right. The phase two cars began to appear in the second half of 2023 as far as I remember. (I think the phase one LRs and Trophys had faster AC charging than the SR cars or the phase two cars, so you may have an advantage there.)

CCU stands for Charge Control Unit, and many phase one 64 kwh cars were supplied with faulty ones. When the problem first arose it caused a lot of trouble, but it's well-recognised now and dealers are usually able to fit a replacement unit under warranty fairly quickly.

CCU is the Charge Control Unit. If you search the forum you'll find more threads about failures of the unit

ER is Extended Range which is what your profile states as your car; this caused a bit of a wrong turn in advice. As you state above you have a Trophy LR. I suggest you amend your profile.

Phase 1 LR Trophys did not have a rear wiper; it was added to the phase 2 LR which came out in the middle of 2023.

Thanks for all your clarifications. I didn’t realize long range and extended range were different. I got the car via lease with delivery mileage in Nov24. Must have dusted off an old one to give me or lost en route for a year
