Does anyone, eg moderators, etc have access to MG engineering?
Is Longbridge still operational?
Somewhere I have read that some engineering is still done in UK?
Presumably a franchised dealer could raise it through their contacts?
Something needs to be done!

One could consider re-building the column with new UK parts (if available, of course, eg Hardy-Spicer?).

However, then MG China could wash their hands of the problem.

There are better more established channels via DVSA/VOSA without complaining to the media

I guess that everyone that had that issue in the UK should really do that then.
I will be monitoring mine, as that's as bad as it can get in terms of security.

I have reported all this to Waylands in Oxford. The MD has said he will take it up with MG. I sincerely hope he does.

Yes, I used some pics from here and some script as well.
MG must know about it anyway due to shortage of replacement columns.
I hope it generates some action.

Long wait times on spares from MG are an all to common problem unfortunately.
The subject of poor parts supply in the UK, is the subject of another thread on this forum.
With the massive upturn in MG sales over the last few years, you would have thought that the support services would have changed up a couple of gears, to imagine this trend by now !.
Sadly, this does not appear the case unfortunately.

Long lead times on car parts is a long standing problem.
Back in 1968 I was quoted 3 months for a road spring for my MG Midget, and that was for an order placed in Oxford for a car made in Abingdon! In the last few years things have been transformed with same day delivery of most common items.
However, steering columns are not common items! Usually only the most severe accidents require steering columns. So I would suggest a high demand for replacements would ring bells in any motor company.

But this problem is a dealbreaker. My question is.... Is the MG ZS EV a safe car??!

Or, is there a chance i buy a really dangerous car with a dangerous problem with steering wheel.

I am surprised I haven't seen that issue reported on their Google Reviews.
If you google for "MG Motor Europe" you don't see any reference to that.

Maybe if they get those reviews they will start doing something about the problem.

To be honest, had I known of this problem, I would probably not have purchased the car until it had been acknowledged and sorted out.

It's a Bosch steering system, which is a little more shocking !.

My theory is that its an installation issue, which might explain why it seems absolutely fine in most cars but catastrophic failure in others. If the column is under compression (or equally under tension), it could well lead to such failure.
If it was a design flaw, eg working angles not within spec, I would have expected more failures.
Of course, it could be that there are more failures than we realise!

Maybe that's contributing to the delay. Three or more entities can say it's not my problem (MG UK, SAIC, Bosch, and possibly the actual manufacturer(s) in China). Still, I would think that all would want it fixed as soon as possible to limit the damage to reputation.

That is true and I also think it's an installation issue for the exact same reasons. However this is really bad publicity for a brand that its trying to reborn again.. they should be worried about it and address the issue.
I feel that they just dont care...what does that say about them?
