charger
A battery charger, or recharger, is a device that stores energy in a battery by running an electric current through it. The charging protocol (how much voltage or current for how long, and what to do when charging is complete) depends on the size and type of the battery being charged. Some battery types have high tolerance for overcharging (i.e., continued charging after the battery has been fully charged) and can be recharged by connection to a constant voltage source or a constant current source, depending on battery type. Simple chargers of this type must be manually disconnected at the end of the charge cycle. Other battery types use a timer to cut off when charging should be complete. Other battery types cannot withstand over-charging, becoming damaged (reduced capacity, reduced lifetime), over heating or even exploding. The charger may have temperature or voltage sensing circuits and a microprocessor controller to safely adjust the charging current and voltage, determine the state of charge, and cut off at the end of charge.
Chargers may elevate the output voltage proportionally with current to compensate for impedance in the wires.A trickle charger provides a relatively small amount of current, only enough to counteract self-discharge of a battery that is idle for a long time. Some battery types cannot tolerate trickle charging; attempts to do so may result in damage. Lithium-ion batteries cannot handle indefinite trickle charging.
Slow battery chargers may take several hours to complete a charge. High-rate chargers may restore most capacity much faster, but high rate chargers can be more than some battery types can tolerate. Such batteries require active monitoring of the battery to protect it from overcharging. Electric vehicles ideally need high-rate chargers. For public access, installation of such chargers and the distribution support for them is an issue in the proposed adoption of electric cars.
Good afternoon folks,
I'm looking to buy one of these chargers '7kW 32A iON-Tech Small Cube Tethered charger'.
So I'm asking the forum, if anyone has experience of these, the company looks legit, it's in Hatton Garden EC1N.
Thanks in advance for any insight.
So tomorrow I'm off for my first (and unexpected) 500+ mile round trip in the MG4 (se lr). I have previously been doing it (every 6 weeks, last 4 years) in a 30kwh Soul (ChadeMo) using Electroverse / Osprey / Grideserve etc.
I really fancy trying the Tesla chargers so have downloaded the app...
Is it ok to charge in the rain? Does rain gettting in around the car plug end or onto the charging unit cause any problems? I am using IP66 external wall socket with built in RCD so no problems there. Mostly concerned with rainwater splashing in and around the car plug end.
MG HS PHEV Trophy 2...
Seems to have some good features, looking forward to seeing the pricing.

Charger at Woodall services failed to charge a couple of times. Guy with a jaguar in next bay also issues, cable locked into car and would not charge.
I called the AA he reset the numerous, unknown, error messages and all good. Disconecting 12v battery, ok only for a minute or so, didn't fix.
Hi all!
I am new here and also a new driver! My first car is the MG4 electric, so I am very pleased with it. We had it for now 2 months.
I am still learning how to deal with the features of the car, etc and I am currently trying to master a bit better the issue with charging.
I came this...
Hi all,
Currently on BG fixed one v32, but looking at switching to the electric driver v5 tariff (looks like it'll be much cheaper to charge overnight). The other option is the Price Promise but by my calculations it'll be more expensive overall.
Hive/Freecharge so far is a joke - 50/50 as to...
Hi all, finally our fleet department has confirmed that my company car is ready to be delivered which is great news. Sadly, the charger hasn’t been installed at my house yet (this is arranged by my firm for BP to install and I’m struggling to get any reply from them regarding install dates)...
I'm trying to get a smart meter installed and have read a few cases of people being turned down due to lack of space in the meter box.
Looking at the size of a Smart Meter I'm wondering if I may have a problem or if anything needs re-arranging in my meter box to create space
What do you think...
I tried out charging my MG5 at a friend's house on his 7kW charger to make sure everything was okay if I ever decide to get one.
Using a ABRP I was able to get confirmation of the charging level.
Hi all.
I've done a search but can't find the exact same issue I'm currently having.
I had a Wallbox Pulsar Max home EV charger installed yesterday, and since then our WiFi has been intermittent. It isn't the broadband, as test show there is a decent speed to the router, but all WiFi enabled...
Hi, I have had EV4 for nearly a year and never had any problems charging at home. However recently (on the new app) I have been unable to charge. I have a Pod Point Solo charger. I have scheduled charging set up on the app and althoguh it has worked without fail before it has now stopped.
A...
I currently have a pod point charger that I would like to replace with an Ohme, has anyone done this?
Nothing wrong with the podoint, however I've been given an ohme from a family member that no longer needs it.
I take it would be a fairly straight forward swap over?
Thanks
Has anyone noticed it takes a long time for the charger to actually connect? I was getting confused about why my car wasn't charging over night so after some investigation, I found that when I put the charger in I have to wait a good minute or so before my car gets to the "connected but not...
This isn't new, but I was looking at the last set of Zapmap charger provider rankings from November 2023 and wondering if these rankings reflects your experiences?

I drove to Leeds and back in the last few days and thought I'd give the Tesla charger at Trumpington (Cambridge) a go. On the way up I only seemed to get 30-35 kW on the way back down I thought I'd give the battery pre-heating a try and put it on 30 mins before the stop and charged at 70-75kW...
Used the Tesla chargers at Purdy Lodge for my last long trip, the XPower peaked at 140.1 kW charging speed and went from 14% (22 miles) to 57% (106 miles in 16 minutes. Power dropped to 71 kW at around 55% charge. Starting with 92% charge in Leeds, that was enough to get me to Edinburgh with...
I've been having intermittent problems charging my MG ZS EV for about the last year. Sometimes when I plug it in it charges as normal, but other times it just won't play. I hear the car lock the plug in but I don't hear the clunk of the charger contactor. I've gone through a lot of tests with...
