charger
A battery charger, or recharger, is a device that stores energy in a battery by running an electric current through it. The charging protocol (how much voltage or current for how long, and what to do when charging is complete) depends on the size and type of the battery being charged. Some battery types have high tolerance for overcharging (i.e., continued charging after the battery has been fully charged) and can be recharged by connection to a constant voltage source or a constant current source, depending on battery type. Simple chargers of this type must be manually disconnected at the end of the charge cycle. Other battery types use a timer to cut off when charging should be complete. Other battery types cannot withstand over-charging, becoming damaged (reduced capacity, reduced lifetime), over heating or even exploding. The charger may have temperature or voltage sensing circuits and a microprocessor controller to safely adjust the charging current and voltage, determine the state of charge, and cut off at the end of charge.
Chargers may elevate the output voltage proportionally with current to compensate for impedance in the wires.A trickle charger provides a relatively small amount of current, only enough to counteract self-discharge of a battery that is idle for a long time. Some battery types cannot tolerate trickle charging; attempts to do so may result in damage. Lithium-ion batteries cannot handle indefinite trickle charging.
Slow battery chargers may take several hours to complete a charge. High-rate chargers may restore most capacity much faster, but high rate chargers can be more than some battery types can tolerate. Such batteries require active monitoring of the battery to protect it from overcharging. Electric vehicles ideally need high-rate chargers. For public access, installation of such chargers and the distribution support for them is an issue in the proposed adoption of electric cars.
I've just had an i-store EV charger fitted, which seems to work fine.
However I'm having trouble adjusting it.
The sparky, (Dave), that installed it told me to download the Z-Box app and register in it.
That didn't work because it failed to send an email confirmation code.
So Dave took the phone...
Hi all,
New to this forum and EV in general, so seeking help regarding schedule charging and the best charger for the vehicle.
I have purchased a 2020 plate ZS and my installer recommended a Rolec QUBEV smart charger. I have had this installed and have been using the QUBEV app but it will not...
I've just bought a 2023 MG4, and it's being a bit picky about charging from our Tesla Wall Connector charge points. We've been using these for years with a Tesla Model S and an MG ZS EV, so I'm confident that there's no problem with the charge points, it's just some handshaking inconsistency...
Good morning. I'm picking up a new MG S5 LR Trophy shortly and have just joined this site. The likelihood is, I'll have the vehicle before by home charger is fitted. Does anyone have the subject charger available to sell by any chance? I've seen an archived ad for one, but my guess is that it's...
Hello everyone.
We currently have a Vestel wallbox and Alpha ESS home battery (10kWh) and solar.
At peak performance the solar will generate just under 5kW, max output on the battery is 4.8kW.
I'm using solar to charge the MG today so wanted to try the wall box. Load was higher than the solar...
Hi can I charge my car at home I’ve had a charger installed I have the correct protection mat to put over my cable that will cross public pavement due to I have no driveway

Hi all. It's been a while since I last did a long trip. Last week I did a longish road trip through France so had to use rapid chargers quite a lot
I've previously done this without any issues - apart from the usual hassle of using apps vs charge cards etc. My favourite one to use in France has...
I just got the first full month bill after adding the BEV and the Ohme. The house has a 3.6kW PV array & 4.2kWh batteries. Export is paid at 15p / kWh and import under a scheduled charge is 7p / kWh.
So 7/3 to 7/4/25 I got this result in rounded numbers :-
Generation payment of £20
Imported...
I received a message from the Octopus app telling me I needed to re-activate my Zappi V2 charger in the app.
Fine I thought, I'll do it now. To cut a long story short, I've now been left with my charger disconnected from my IO Go tariff
and unable to add it back into the app as it now says I...

I am not able to use Octopus Intelligent Go because both my MG4 and Easee One charger are not compatible with Intelligent Go. (At least one of the two needs to be compatible).
My Easee app updated last night and now gives me the option of linking my Octopus account with Easee to take advantage...

We should be getting our car on Tuesday (it was supposed to be today but that's another story) and Octopus have yet to give me a date for installation of a charger. I had intended to use a granny charger in the meantime. However, our house is 35m from the car so I'd have to use an extension...

Normally we inly charge at home but have strayed away for a break. Whilst at a fast charger we noticed a non-MG charging alongside with the driver sat in. Can we do this! Is it considered "safe practice"?
