driving

Driving is the controlled operation and movement of a vehicle, including cars, motorcycles, trucks, buses, and bicycles. Permission to drive on public highways is granted based on a set of conditions being met and drivers are required to follow the established road and traffic laws in the location they are driving. The word driving, has etymology dating back to the 15th century and has developed as what driving has encompassed has changed from working animals in the 15th to automobiles in the 1800s. Driving skills have also developed since the 15th century with physical, mental and safety skills being required to drive. This evolution of the skills required to drive have been accompanied by the introduction of driving laws which relate to not only the driver but the driveability of a car.
The term "driver" originated in the 15th century, referring to the occupation of driving working animals like pack or draft horses. It later applied to electric railway drivers in 1889 and motor-car drivers in 1896. The world's first long-distance road trip by automobile occurred in 1888 when Bertha Benz drove a Benz Patent-Motorwagen from Mannheim to Pforzheim, Germany. Driving requires both physical and mental skills, as well as an understanding of the rules of the road.
In many countries, drivers must pass practical and theoretical driving tests to obtain a driving license. Physical skills required for driving include proper hand placement, gear shifting, pedal operation, steering, braking, and operation of ancillary devices. Mental skills involve hazard awareness, decision-making, evasive maneuvering, and understanding vehicle dynamics. Distractions, altered states of consciousness, and certain medical conditions can impair a driver's mental skills.
Safety concerns in driving include poor road conditions, low visibility, texting while driving, speeding, impaired driving, sleep-deprived driving, and reckless driving. Laws regarding driving, driver licensing, and vehicle registration vary between jurisdictions. Most countries have laws against driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. Some countries impose annual renewals or point systems for driver's licenses to maintain road safety.

Loss of power due to empty battery / uphill driving / acceleration / overtaking

On the way home, I once again had to experience that the car in normal mode with ACC did not accelerate when overtaking. The battery was empty except for 2 bars and it no longer accelerated, and that was at 110 km/h. If something like that happens on a country road, it can quickly become...

Inaudible navigation volume while driving at speed 110 km/hr in MG 5 luxury EV

While driving at the speed of 110 km/hr in MG 5 luxury EV the navigation volume is not audible. I guess it's may be due to noise inside the cabin. If it is then it's a big issue. Please help me rectify this issue.

    It's Arrived

Still on R30, but has been absolutely faultless in the 500miles i've driven since it arrived yesterday. (what infotainment version got the update A/C layout and drop down menu?) Haven't really noticed the LKA or any of the driving aids coming down the A701/M6 so hopefully it's not out to get...

    100% SoC now shows 449 km (280 miles) ??

More as a comment because when we took delivery of the MG4 64 kWh is was at 100% and showed 420 km. Now, 2,500km later and charging to 100% (prior to a long journey tomorrow) it's risen to 449 km. Maybe not a large difference but I am wondering whether the MG 4 is building up a picture of our...

    Problem setting regeneration system

I drive an MG3, model year 2024, which has a three-level regeneration system. The default setting is the middle level. Every time I get into the car, I have to manually set the regeneration to level 1 (low level). The middle level feels uncomfortable, especially when driving downhill, as I need...

Delayed battery level indication when driving?

I’ve had my MG4 LR for 8 months now from new and do a 65 mile round trip 3 times a week, usually charging to 80% overnight. Twice in the past week I’ve noticed on the car displays (drivers and infotainment) that the level displayed remains at the value showing at start of the journey until I’ve...

Intelligent battery heating: stops when selecting ECO driving mode

Intelligent Battery Heating (IBH) is Slightly more intelligent than I thought. Even if the IBH setting in the Energy Consumption panel is set to Enabled, it won’t heat up your battery when the Drive mode is set to ECO. It will start working the moment your drive mode is anything other than...

    Snow Driving

This, ZS, is the first car for many years that I do not have winter tyres for. Today I looked out and thought that the snow wasn’t too bad. So preheat on, not as good as my Outlander but still warmer car to get into. I was disappointed with the performance in probably less than 3”. My...

Poor design... a cautionary tale, always turn your wipers off

I've been fairly happy with the lacking ignition or start/stop button... that is, until the below happened: It had been raining the previous evening, so I'd had the wipers on and didn't think to turn them off before I got out of the car. The next morning the car was covered in snow so I...

Is there a way to make the central screen darken for night driving?

I've looked but not found it yet and at the moment I'm driving on country lanes at 05:00, also I ran into fog yesterday but no clue how to get the fog lights on. And at -6° this morning, I was very glad of the heated seat and steering wheel, but the screen took FOREVER to defrost.

    Winter driving

I'm not impressed at all with the car on icy mornings it's taking 15 minutes or more to unfreeze the windscreen, and you freeze during the process, I put the vent on recirculation, but on driving in traffic I find I'm breathing diesel fumes as it isn't closing properly if at all, when I try to...

Retention / Saving of Driving and Safety options ?

Hello all, Having only owned a MG4 Luxury for one week and 300km, I am still learning the array of settings. Night driving

For the next three weeks, I'm up and out at 05:30 to go to the hospital, I notice that the dash dims when the lights are on but the central screen stayed bright and on country roads it is so bad I had to cover it up, is there an option to darken it and still have it usable?
