Diagnostic VDI, VNCI, MDI with MG4

Is it an MG branded granny charger, or a 3rd party one? Are those other cars MGs?

(If the granny is a 3rd party one then there's an outside chance that the resistor value between the GND and CP pins [I think] might be such a value that your MG5 can't work out what to do with it). 🤷‍♂️

It's genuine mg one, but it works on my zs aswell, it's just the mg5 that doesnt

So, my MG ZS EV, front Radar issue, diag says: communication ok but hardware number don't match

Complete newbie here... got my secondhand MG4 Trophy today.

I am unfamiliar with lots of the acronyms etc. but am fairly tech savvy so would like to attempt to upgrade.

Can anyone clarify - do I need anything other than a USB stick with the software loaded on it in order to update to a later firmware? - I saw a mention of a step 7 updating something using SIPS so not quite sure?...
Think I'm on R30 at the moment but would like to move to a later release.

Welcome to the forum.

Yes. For most firmware updates, you need a laptop and a dongle to plug into the OBD port in the car.

Also, apart from a very few cases, you will need a subscription to MG's servers to download various files. See the first post of this thread for some relevant links.

Edit: It seems that the dongle doesn't have to be corded, some use WiFi.

Anyone have any ideas on a Radar hardware number doesn't match? Do I need a new radar?

Currently hating life, got the VNCI cable, been all day in my car for about 5 hours trying to get the IPK to program in and it keeps failing. So at the moment I have no instrument cluster, just keeps failing, and it's such a slow install, 1% a minute.

Not great, paying the difference or asking for a refund?

Just updated IPK, says 29 mins, took 52 mins
So yeah a little slower than SIPS expected which is likely what the OEM VDI takes
Any idea why it would keep failing? Tried for hours

Which Firmware is installed on the VNCI? It should be 1009. Did you connect a charger to the 12V battery? Disable all Power save Options on your Computer, including USB Power save. Somewhere at Device Manager/USB Devices/Disable "Allow to Switch Off USB devices",
The Installation of the IPK is known to be slow and can keep failing. Some had to try 6 Times.
For me the FVCM kept failing, But i did managed finnaly to reprogram it somehow. I had an older VNCI Version which was also a reason for failing the update Other possibility could be to use the VNCI with WiFi, But i dont known how to configure that.

Good luck. 👍🏻

Do you have installed a new Radar, or did an update fail aswell? Maybe you should try to remove 12v from the car, let it sit for 10 min and then reconnect, add a charger and retry with reprogram.

How do I update the vnci? Thankyou for your reply

With the VNCI manager. This tool should be also linked on the Drive in this thread.
This may be your Main issue why it fails ..
Edit:

Just to be clear.. I'm not talking about the Bosch VCI, it is the VNCI Manager which is shown in this post:

And here the Serial.of the VNCI + Firmware should be displayed. And there you should have the possibility to update.

I'm not sure if VCI (Bosch) Manager needs to be closed before opening the VNCI Tool.

I have ipk back, thank goodness.
Only problem left now is this from Radar. I tried one from my other mg but says vin doesn't match and won't let me do anything.
And the one I have says hardware number doesn't match and won't let me do anything
