Ok this makes it odd, found a MG bulletin that says it shouldn't work since 30th Nov 2025:
We have had notification of a change to the SIPS server the UK is connected to. SIPS being used to update and programme all electronic control units on vehicles 2018 and above is an integral part of your workshops processes to repair vehicles, therefore, we urge you to take note of the following information:
SIPS 1.0.2.5 - worked through the Server in Shanghai and from November 30th will no longer function in the UK.
SIPS 1.0.2.7 - and subsequent updates for the UK market will work through a European Server and will be the only version of SIPS which will allow you to continue your day-to-day work.
If you haven’t already installed the latest version, please follow the instructions included in AMS INFO > Software > Diag Tools > “Setup-SIPS-1.0.2.7 014” at your earliest convenience.
The latest version of SIPS features ‘non-force reprogramming’, which allows for software updates to be completed only when deemed necessary by the manufacturer. This will require a verification code from SSNW and the reason for the update to be applied. This is for the manufacturer to understand why this update was required.
Reprogramming will only be necessary in circumstances which involve: Vehicle malfunctions or Customer complaints.
Opposingly, the “force reprogramming” is the traditionally used Red Cross (X) in older version of SIPS. This is where the software in the vehicle doesn’t match the software on the server and reprogramming can continue as normal if required by one of the above bullet points.
SIPS has also introduced new statuses along the usual ‘Green tick’ and ‘Red Cross’, these consist of:
· A Grey Asterisk (*): ‘Non-Force Reprogramming’ - The ‘Vehicle ECU information and ‘Manufacturer Database information’ data are different. The vehicle ECU information is already up to date and cannot be reprogrammed.
· A Blue Question Mark (?): TAC Support – The ECU data in the manufacturer’s database is missing and when attempting to reprogram, configure or replace the relevant module, a pop up will be displayed informing the user ‘TAC Server Software Exception, please contact TAC’. This is only required if the fault your team are investigating requires an update for the control unit with a question mark.
· Grey dash (- -): ‘Non-Force Reprogramming’ – The version of the data corresponding to the ECU function is inconsistent with the Manufacturer’s database. No need to operate the reprogramming or configuration function. If there is a complaint from the customer or a fault with the vehicle, an update can be completed, however, you will need to obtain a verification code through the SSNOW system > Diagnosis > VerificationCode
Thank you for your continued support to the brand, if you have any questions regarding installation or concerns post update, please contact @mg.co.uk
