Mine's going through the process at the moment. They've tried the software update a month ago and it's going in again this morning and they are keeping it overnight so they can do the report for MG who will then approve the CCU replacement.

I don't know why your dealer has kept the car. I've been using mine although I've been paying an extortionate amount on public chargers
Thankfully we still have our ice car and we don't need to have it back just yet. It's also better than ferrying it back and forth to the dealers. It is having its second service done as well.

Oh dear, is it time to get shut of mine while it's still working ? 😟
I don't see why dealers have to contact MG China for warranty issues, why can't MG UK authorise repairs ?

Update 1:

After taking the car in at 8:30 Wednesday morning they didn't start looking at my car until 3:30 in the afternoon. (Why do dealers do that?) I guess they then reloaded or updated software over the next hour as I got 10 fault notifications on the iSmart app.

The car was then put on charge overnight to see if updating the software had worked, which it hadn't. But they have found a fault on the high voltage side of the CCU. MG have been contacted to approve the repair which can take up to 24 hours. Meanwhile I've got the courtesy car until mine is repaired which implies the part need is readily available.

As a side note. Those of you who have fallen out of love with your MG4 get a Fiat 500 hybrid as a courtesy car and the MG wont seem such a bad car after all.

I had the same issue last year and had my CCU replaced (eventually), they had my car for 2 weeks though as they had to prove to MG that it wasn't a anything else or a software issue.

I was given a vauxhall e-Corsa and that made me really appreciate my MG4 when I got it back.

Update 2:

MG now want the dealer to take the CCU from a known working MG4 and install it on mine, run a few more tests to definitely prove that it's the CCU on my car that's faulty and nothing else. The dealer then has to inform MG of the result and wait for the go ahead to order and fit a new unit.

This could take a further two weeks if I left the car with the dealers. I've opted to have my car back between each stage. This will increase the overall time it takes to get this sorted but as I'm using my own insurance to cover the courtesy car it only covers it for a week at a time. Plus I can't even get one greyhound in the back of the Fiat 500 courtesy car never mind two.

I did ask the receptionist if they have the same problems with Fiat as they have a Fiat franchise too. He said they were nearly as bad but they have a lot more MGs having warranty work but MG had a 7 year warranty and Fiat only a 2 year which can be extended to 3.

I have a 23 plate (May) MG4 Trophy LR that until recently has been working fine and good to drive, but a few weeks ago it suddenly developed a charging issue where it would stop charging after a few minutes, but only when using the AC charger at home (and also three public AC chargers I tried). DC Charging seems to work OK. I booked it into our local dealership where I bought the car on the 9th April and after an initial inspection they reported it was charging OK. However, I asked them if they could try an overnight charge to fully verify the system. This time the charging stopped after a few Kwh were added. The same happened when they used their own cable and agreed there was a fault. I rang them today to see what progress there had been and was told that the problem had to be reported to MG China for a response before they could go any further. I'm not sure if this is a common response for other forum members, but it surprised me that the level of in depth diagnosis capability and autonomy the dealers have to rectify faults on their own must be fairly low. Incidentally, the Weather App ,which has never worked despite several infotainment updates, has also been reported to MG for a response. They've had the car two weeks now and there is no end in sight for this problem, nor is there any chance of a courtesy car until mid May. Have others had similar experiences with dealerships?
This is a known fault with the 23 trophy mine and several others developed this fault after a few months. It needs a new charge control unit.

Or leave you with a 'pre-loved', but working CCU ?

FIAT = Fix It Again, Tony :)

So should MG = "Maybe Guaranteed"? / other suggestions...

That's what I thought but apparently the major components have their serial number registered to each car. I guess it's to stop fraudulent warranty claims.

FIAT = Fix It Again Tomorrow in my mind :)
FIAT = Fart In A Tin and after having a Fiat 500 as a courtesy car even that is optimistic.

2 year warranty!!!

They have a 3 year warranty in Australia*, which is embarrassing when even BMW and Merc do 5 years.

* I just looked that up on the Fiat Australia website.

Update 3:

Slightly annoyed. The car is now back with the dealers for the next stage of the process. It went in first thing on Monday morning and according to the app the car was started and moved at lunchtime on Monday and again early afternoon on Tuesday.

I rang the service department up on Tuesday at 16:30 for an update. Apparently they haven't done anything yet and couldn't see the problem as I had the courtesy car booked for the week.

I'll tell you what the problem is. You can't get two greyhounds in the back of a bloody Fiat 500 to take them for walks in the cool of the local woods 😡

Can you ask the dealer nicely for an upgrade to the estate version?

Update 4:

The saga goes on. The dealer swapped the CCU with one from another car but it still didn't charge on AC. They've then done a wiring check and still no joy. Each stage they have to report to MG and wait for them to tell the technician what to do next.

Meanwhile I have the car back temporarily as I'm only covered for a week at a time on my insurance for a courtesy car.

:( that's not good news. It does raise the question as to how comprehensive the car's diagnostic systems are. I would have expected MG to be able to pretty accurately pin-point the module / component in failure and fix it, rather than have a dealer swap parts from other vehicles.

Fingers crossed they can get to the bottom of it pretty soon.
