But why would you run that single app with access to an online account that is bound to your car on an old phone? If anything I wouldn’t run ISMART on anything other than a secure phone or a device we no network whatsoever.
Why wouldn’t you run ISMART on a windows PC at this point?
Could you update that phone to a more recent OS?
Like I said, I do not want to buy a new dedicated phone just to access iSmart. I don't use it for anything else. I have this one for iSmart access for preheating the car when it is -30°C, like yesterday. Guess I have to reach out to some relatives in case they have something newer that they want to change out then, since I doubt MG will pay special attention to this. I have looked into updating it, and it is not possible to make it really up to date, only a little bit less outdated. But I would like Windows access yes, but don't know anything about that yet. Is it possible? That would be very good indeed!

I have Android 8.0 on my phone, and have used iSmart 2.0.1 with great success on that yesterday morning. Yesterday evening I updated to 2.0.2, and I also only get a black screen when the app is loading, and it is stuck there. Found no fix for it. So it is not only your phone, it is the android version I guess.
Thanks MSvirus for confirming that it is not just me then. Not sure what I'll do about it if MG don't fix it (which they should, given that they state it's compatible with Android 8 - either that or change their description). Guess I'll just wait a while to see if the app gets updated so it will be supported again, and if it doesn't, then I'll do without it until I'm forced into upgrading the phone. I'm not going to upgrade based on this one issue.

There is a way to roll back an app update, but you a) need the APK for that previous version, and b) need to use ADB to run the package manager with a flag on the install command. So probably not for the faint-hearted. Alternatively you could delete the current app, side-load the previous version APK and run it from within the file manager ... obviously you'd need to go through the login process again.

Meanwhile, one more tip for those who can not Register a new account in the application. It is not mentioned anywhere, but the requirement for your Password is "8...16 alphanumerical symbols, numbers mandatory". Having this fulfilled, the "Register!" button gets unblocked after entering correct verification code.

Possible? Yes. (Using an Android emulator, if not using Windows 11 which has a restricted set of apps I believe)
I tested using one of the more popular android emulators yesterday evening. I got the same black screen and no loading of the app there too actually. The emulator software did work on other, so it wasn't that. Not great.

I find the updated version very erratic and not as useful. I get either no information or wrong information. This morning g the internal temperature of the car is 87degrees
Does seem to be the case for some people. Just checked and mine is showing internal 2c external 1c. It is in a garage so external will be higher as it is cold and frosty at the moment outside.

Predicted range reports different results.
First pass 126 miles, second pass 77 miles, third pass 126 again ?.
Reminds me of …….. Think of a number between one and ten, ( you know how the rest goes ) 🤣.

I reported that bug on the App Store. On the second pass it thinks the range was in KM and converts it into miles again. Then it realises it was miles already 🤦🏻‍♂️

To be honest this happened with the EV6 from time to time, so I expect it now.
When it gained an app in 2020, the Zoe was the same.
When set to miles, the car would report its range in miles, as you'd expect.
With the app also set to miles, it would think the car sent km and convert to miles again.

It took Renault several months to fix it.

Sooner or later the EV manufacturers will realise they're mostly software companies who sell standardised hardware, like Google, Apple, Microsoft, etc rather than hardware companies. Other than the shape of the body, there's little in an EV that is bespoke. The motors, batteries, cables, etc are essentially just off the shelf parts from specialist manufacturers. When they realise that, then apps will work consistently.

I might look into that, but all I can say is that I haven't had any issue with running any other apps on the phone. I know that operating systems get outdated eventually, but the performance of this phone with Android 8 is still perfectly acceptable for me so far. And I'm averse to replacing tech until I have to.

I think that MG have probably broken the app for Android 8 with V2.0.2 (unintentionally) and so they need to fix it. It's still possible it is a problem with my phone, so I'll keep trying different things, if I get anywhere I'll report back, it may help someone else.
Exactly the same issue. Android 8 phone that runs everything else fine. Version 2.1 ran OK, but 2.2 won't start - just a black screen. Tried all the usual fixes - no joy. Have to wait for 2.3 to see if they've fixed it. Certainly not going to buy a new phone just for this app!
