MG4 Reduction Gearbox Oil Leak

I would defo reject if it has a bubbled dash top.
I suppose they will just fit a new dash top cover.
Try and stick with the car as mine has had issues as well. OIl Leak, Tyres, Radio Freeze and Unstable Screen switching.
HOWEVER its a great car to drive and now milder weather the range is getting better.
You feeling a little bit conflicted this morning😉

Zero faith in the dealer after a number of lies and bull from them.

I will be sticking with it unless the dealer starts being stupid. I have no faith in them at all
.

It's catching like that cough that's going about! The winter conflicting bug.

To be fair your dealer is up there they let you drive away in a completely uninsured car.

Been to see the area manger about it all and he is taking over the issues. To be fair he has done more in ten minutes than what the branch has done. Still waiting for a phone call from last week.

The person who did not insure it has avoided me and sent someone else out yesterday. Not a good Move. I have sent an email to record what the issues are and gives me evidence that they know about it when/if I do a rejection of the car. I thought dealers have changed their ways but sadly some are just lying to get a sale. Social media is a very powerful tool now for the buyers

Sadly a sign of the times, demand and supply, although a bit of time and attention to details shouldn't be too much too ask

Well I had hoped to have avoided this issue, but sadly I found oil on the liner when I checked after having reached 550 miles. I phoned up the dealer in Oxford and they promised a call back, which never came, so I called again today and was promised another call back, which came right at the end of the time service was open.

They can’t take a look until more than a week’s time. They recommended I call AA to give it a look-see, so they could determine whether it’s safe to drive. They looked at it for 5 minutes and said nope, don’t drive it. The AA will recover it to the dealer but the dealer won’t accept it until Monday. So looks like I’m without my car for around 2 weeks. I’ll be having a word with the dealer about this as it’s not good enough!

They had payment for the car and I’m left with no use of a vehicle for half of the first month of ownership.

I knew we should have kept a list of dealers BS excuses and crap service!

Only issue is it would be like war and peace by now

This is absolutely ridiculous being told to call an AA patrol to check a vehicle is ridiculous AA patrols are there to assist people who have broken down while that patrol person was doing this somebody could well be waiting a lot longer than they should for that patrol to come and help them.

If this is what the AA have agree to do for MG dealers then they should be reported to the SMMA as this is total unfair to other people that could be broken down and even possibly be in a dangerous position.

MG motors are well out of order IMHO using a breakdown service in this way.

Yep...I just shook my head when I read the previous comments relating to the MG dealer suggesting to the owner/victim to call AA to check it out.
Talk about 'passing the buck' as we say in Australia (probably UK too). :p
It is just further proof that most MG dealers or MG themselves just do not want to know about this oil leak issue in particular.
The only thing favouring MG at the moment in this segment with the MG4 is price compared to the competition but that will change before long especially with offerings from BYD not far away, especially the Dolphin which will be cheaper and a bit quicker.
Also the similar sized Reno Megane Etech, Nissan Leaf, Cupra Leon, VW id3, Hyundai Ionic and Kona etc. whilst more expensive will be a better choice if MG don't soon get their act together.

I agree Les. I bet the argument would be that it was a breakdown and that the car couldn’t be safely driven.
It’s pathetic customer service - just shifting the responsibility and delaying ownership. It really is shameful. All focus is on getting cars sold - after that you can ….. off!

Yes I agree. I do think that MG in the UK also has that extra brand awareness from the history of MG. At the moment there is just one thing keeping interest alive - the sales price.
More astute companies realise that customer service is also a key part of retaining buyers for the future. MG seem to have forgotten this and are just focussed on selling.

Yes I agree. I felt terrible phoning the AA when I wasn’t in need of making a journey. As soon as I got through and finished the questions they ask you about whether you’re in a safe location etc I said to them I wasn’t sure I should even be calling them, but I mentioned there was oil leaking from the car and he said. “Absolutely no problem. We’ll be happy to look at that for you.”

They did ask me whether I was vulnerable and if there were any emergency situations they should know about. I told them I was not and that there was no emergency, so I hope they prioritised me correctly and only sent someone out to me once there was a quiet spot. It wasn’t an AA branded van that came. It was a local recovery specialist commissioned by the AA. He still identified himself as the AA when he came to my door though. Really top service from the AA.

It's an absolute disgrace and a complete waste of a service that is there for far more serious issues.
It really doesn't surprise me though it is now becoming abundantly clear that MG do not for the most part care about the customer.

The motor trade will eventually get out the situation it's in at the moment, with supply and demand, hopefully all these dealers reap what they sow.

It would appear MG's only priority is to get cars out the door.

Then when the dealer eventually takes the car in they will need to photograph the leak and speak to MG who will need to authorise replacing the breather which will likely take another couple of weeks to arrive. The dealer will then need to fit and top up the oil.

You could easily be without your car for a month.

The crazy thing is the part is inexpensive and could be fitted as a matter of course to ALL cars saving the additional cost and inconvenience to everyone.

We've been saying it for months now, it's shocking from MG.
More mixed messages again as well with some dealers saying drive it it's fine and others saying don't drive it.

Over 3 months now and they can't even communicate clear direction out to their dealers.

I still think there could be some long term issued if the car is being used with an ever decreasing amount of oil for a prolonged period.

That’s exactly why I felt relieved that AA said don’t drive it. It’s inconvenient, but it gives me stronger argument to tell MG they need to provide a courtesy car immediately and I assume that if the coming oil is out, the amount of wear in the gearbox will be increased.

I'm genuinely sorry for people who are having issues with their MG4s, and I hope they get satisfactorily and promptly resolved, but I can't help but think I dodged a bullet when I cancelled my MG4 order. It's a shame as on the face of it, I think it's a nice car.

In all likelihood my next EV won't be from MG, although I'm still enjoying my gen1 ZS EV. As others have said, some of the upcoming BYD stuff looks promising, but there will be concerns about dealer coverage and so on.

Certainly in Scotland Arnold Clark are fronting BYD sales

Lets be honest tho' its not a deal breaker. Mine has had the new breather fitted weeks ago and is totally fine. Also it still appears not all cars have this problem. The small amount of oil lost will have no detriment to the mechanics of the gearbox.
I agree that MG should just fit the modified part to all cars and thats where they let them selves down. However a good dealer is worth a million thanks as they have pestered MG for the fixes to my car.
It still is the best driven car I have owned and thats coming from Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, Audi and Volvo.
