charger
A battery charger, or recharger, is a device that stores energy in a battery by running an electric current through it. The charging protocol (how much voltage or current for how long, and what to do when charging is complete) depends on the size and type of the battery being charged. Some battery types have high tolerance for overcharging (i.e., continued charging after the battery has been fully charged) and can be recharged by connection to a constant voltage source or a constant current source, depending on battery type. Simple chargers of this type must be manually disconnected at the end of the charge cycle. Other battery types use a timer to cut off when charging should be complete. Other battery types cannot withstand over-charging, becoming damaged (reduced capacity, reduced lifetime), over heating or even exploding. The charger may have temperature or voltage sensing circuits and a microprocessor controller to safely adjust the charging current and voltage, determine the state of charge, and cut off at the end of charge.
Chargers may elevate the output voltage proportionally with current to compensate for impedance in the wires.A trickle charger provides a relatively small amount of current, only enough to counteract self-discharge of a battery that is idle for a long time. Some battery types cannot tolerate trickle charging; attempts to do so may result in damage. Lithium-ion batteries cannot handle indefinite trickle charging.
Slow battery chargers may take several hours to complete a charge. High-rate chargers may restore most capacity much faster, but high rate chargers can be more than some battery types can tolerate. Such batteries require active monitoring of the battery to protect it from overcharging. Electric vehicles ideally need high-rate chargers. For public access, installation of such chargers and the distribution support for them is an issue in the proposed adoption of electric cars.
Sorry if this has been mentioned before .
I've had this charger installed a year ago and wasn't too bothered at first about scheduled charges as it took them a while to get smart meter picking up signal .
When I did try a scheduled charge I found it wouldn't work.Must have contacted BP Pulse...
Hi all.
I'll apologize upfront as I believe this has been discussed before but I am really struggling to understand it. I'm about to order an Ohme Home Pro through Octopus so that I can get their Intelligent tarrif. I have been told that the charger will work with any car but only certain...
This has happened twice now. Used a CCS rapid charger at Oxford services and it failed to initiate the charge, once I had managed to get the charger out and was going to move to the other machine I saw the Message on the the dash HVB (High Voltage Battery) cut off. Can’t drive the car. Googled...
What has happened to Geniepoint charging network. Within 20 mile radius of my home,15 out of the their 21 charging points are not working at all and of the other 6 only 3 have working CCS 50KW working units. A recent survey posted on line found that less than 50% of all companies in the...
I was due to have a Zappi supplied and fitted on Monday, but my installer called today to say that because of the change in regs in December last year there's no stock of units that comply. The manufacturer Myenergi look like they're quoting a 4 week lead time on the Zappi, so it seems...
Just asking a question regarding charging. Yesterday I plugged into a BP pulse ccs charger and it displayed a waring to disconnect the cable as there was an issue with the connection to the car. So thought it was a charger issue and left it at that. This morning I took it to a charger I normally...
Hi all. The earth leg of the 3 pin plug of my granny charger has being damaged, I stepped on the plug and the earth leg broke .
My question . Can I just change the plug with a new plug without any risks of damage the charger ? The new plug will be 13 amps . But I'm a bit concerned about...
Brand new, receipted and unused EasbyEV 7.5m 32a 3 phase type 2 charging cable. Use for 11kwh charging capability on 11kw or 22kw chargers. It can replace an existing home 7kw charger cable to provide one cable for all AC charger options. Comes with protective bag. Situated in Edinburgh for...
Just changed from old SR MG5 to MG5 Trophy. Zappi set to Eco+ for timer 00.30 to 04.30. Car timer definitely OFF.
Car did not charge stating
" Charge Delayed"
Any ideas please?
Sorry if there is a thread on this already but I couldn't find one. Although 99% of my charging will be from home when I finally get my MG4, I am curious which public charge network has the best coverage and also do you still have to use specific apps with subscription or do they let you use...
My MG supplied 3pin charger will not charge unless my traction battery is well below 7/8 (say 90%) full charge. Had the car over a year now & don't recall the problem.
Is this normal or Is the charger or something in the car deteriorating?
Hi,
Complete newbie here. My second-hand MG5 Exclusive 115kw 61kwh EV only came with the 3-pin charger cable. So I guess I need to buy a type 2 charger cable if I come across an untethered public charger? If so, can someone recommend a make/model?
Thanks in advance.
p.s I haven't had a charger...
Hi,
Is anyone using an Ohme charger with Octopus Agile? Quite simply i would like to connect the car and set a price cap of 10p/kwh. When the Agile price drops below i want the car to charge, when over, stop. The hardware is aware of the tariff etc.
whenever i conenct the MG4 it jsut starts...
Same problem with every charger but my home one! (MG5)
I don’t quite know what I’ve done wrong, but for about a week now I can only get the charge port to lock closed and start on my home charger. On every other one, fast or slow the locks won’t engage - I can hear them try to slide in but they...
Looking for some recommendations/advice on a home charger.
I'm previously a leaf owner and have a 3kw podpoint solo 2 tethered (type 1 connector)
When I bought my MG5 (pre facelift) last year I bought an adapter which had worked fine until now. We've also bought a Zoe so have been thinking...
Hi guys,
I have been noticing that my home charging using the provided MG ZS EV car charger, only charges with ~1.5kW all the time. Even the SOC is like 50% it does not consume like ~2.3kW that it should be capable of. Any ideas why?
Cheers.
Kay
