charging

A charging station, also called an EV charger or electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), is a piece of equipment that supplies electrical power for charging plug-in electric vehicles (including hybrids, neighborhood electric vehicles, trucks, buses, and others).
Although batteries can only be charged with DC power, most electric vehicles have an onboard AC-to-DC converter that allows them to be plugged into a standard household AC electrical receptacle. Inexpensive low-power public charging stations will also provide AC power, known as "AC charging stations". To facilitate higher power charging, which requires much larger AC-to-DC converters, the converter is built into the charging station instead of the vehicle, and the station supplies already-converted DC power directly to the vehicle, bypassing the vehicle's onboard converter. These are known as "DC charging stations". Most fully electric car models can accept both AC and DC power.
Charging stations provide connectors that conform to a variety of standards. DC charging stations are commonly equipped with multiple connectors to be able to supply a wide variety of vehicles.
Public charging stations are typically found street-side or at retail shopping centers, government facilities, and other parking areas.

    10-100% charging

There is a thread in the MG4 section, which suggests that 10-100% charging is required every so often - apparently this is mentioned in the MG4 manual. I can't find anything in the MG5 manual that suggests that this is necessary - only charging to 100% and allowing equalisation to take place...

    Bad News - Good News

Bad News first, Free charging in South Ayrshire with Charge Place Scotland (which is funded by the council) is coming to an end on 31st March 2024. The good news is that the charges from April 1st are quite reasonable at 31p/kWh for AC (up to 22kWh) and 37p for the DC 50kW chargers. These...

Very poor range in Trophy LR

Hi all, New to the MG4, had a Kona EV for 3 years. I have a Trophy Long Range 64 KWH and since owing this car I am constantly charging it. I only had to charge my Kona once a week and got about 245 miles range without issue. I did 180 miles last week. To achieve this range I needed to charge 3...

Granny lead not charging? Advice please

Hi, so we've plugged in the granny lead to charge (we don't have a wall charger yet), and we're a bit puzzled. It's our first ever time charging, so please bear with us. I accept that it's likely to be very slow; we've set the draw at 8A. But Sleipnir is showing as drawing power (about...

    Charging 10%-100% every 3-6 months

Apologies in advance because I know this has been discussed before. I'm currently running my SOC to around 10% so I can do the 10% - 100% charge and balance the battery, however I have an off peak tariff (5 hours) and don't think my car will get to 100% in that window. The manual states this...

    Charger taking ages on ""connecting..."

Has anyone noticed it takes a long time for the charger to actually connect? I was getting confused about why my car wasn't charging over night so after some investigation, I found that when I put the charger in I have to wait a good minute or so before my car gets to the "connected but not...

    New AC charging behaviour

Had a software update to R33 as my car didn’t have an outside temperature display. That is now working but it appears they may have updated more than just the infotainment. Before the update the car wouldn’t AC charge unless the car was locked even if you pressed “start charging” but I’d only...

    One Month of ownership

Well, I’ve been driving my Pre-FL LR MG5 for a month now. The 3 pin charger is working well and certainly keeps the battery at around 70% easily. I’ve driven nearly 700 miles without an issue. I did get the 70,000 mile service done at a cost of £230.00 which included the replacement of two rear...

    Confused ?

Hi all, I have just charged up at a shell recharge, I was at 16% and charged to 80%, = 64%!! On the bill it said I had 42.22kWh. I paid £34.19. So 42.22 X 85p = £35.88 why didn’t I receive 64%? And why did they charge £34.19 when it should have been £38.88?
