Issue with AC charging/New CCU fitted (Phase One SE LR)

Finally got hold of someone helpful this morning. Part is due in next week. Have a Friday appointment to fit, promised a call on Thursday to confirm.

Sadly no, they (again) promised me a call either way on Thursday to confirm the part is in and ready for fitting. No doubt I will end up calling them or turn up on Friday and find they don't have it.

By the way, this is a good dealer. They are knowledgeable and when they get the car they usually do exactly what is asked. But it is a bit sad that even a good dealer can't make themselves properly available to be contacted.

Update 8:

The car is now at the dealers for the ICS (Integrated Charging Socket) to be replaced. They've got it for two days so they can check if it charges OK.

Meanwhile I've had a courtesy car that many times I've earned enough frequent courtesy car points to be upgraded from the usual Fiat 500 to a MG ZS 1.5 petrol

Woohoo!!

My car's fixed.

I collected it at 4pm yesterday afternoon and as it was down to 24% and I hadn't done a balance charge or a calibration charge for over 6 months I took the scenic route home to reduce the battery to under 10%.

Why is it when you want to run the charge down on purpose you seem get more miles per percentage point than when you drive economically?

Anyway it is now sat on my drive at 100% charge

Is the conclusion to all your woes that the problem was just a (presumably) passive socket and not the CCU itself ?

I can only tell you what I know through talking to the service reception staff.

They found a fault on the high voltage side and one of the first things they tried was replacing the Combined Charging Unit with a known working unit and that didn't fix it. I thought that's odd as everyone else who has had the problem has had the CCU replaced. Even the bloke on reception thought it was the CCU as they have had several MG4s with the same problem.

I guess the answer to your question is yes but how passive it is I don't know

The Integrated Charging Socket seems to have some electronics, as it has 18 wires (between the two diagrams) going to it. The Combined Charging System socket itself (for a single phase car) has only 5+2 wires (Type 2 part + rapid charging part). I assume that the remainder are just for the LEDs, door lock, and door open sensor. It's a shame that the small lettering on the first diagram isn't legible (for geeks like me).

My guess is that it was the door open sensor, since that could conceivably prevent a charge. Or possibly the door lock motor or stop sensor could indicate a problem. Replacing the entire socket would indeed be expensive and (I'm guessing) way overkill. But maybe there is some module behind or around the socket that was replaced.

I reworded my post and I thought I had deleted the original but I must have missed a bit.

It still has the remains of the battery terminal grease I used to prevent wear and corrosion although they did remove the interior side panel behind the charging socket.

After many months of flawless home charging since my CCU repair, I have started to get an occasional new problem.

The symptoms are different, so this may be nothing to do with the CCU.

Sometimes charging simply fails to ever start, with an "EV is Preventing Charging" message from my Zappy. 0kW goes in. Subsequent charges (eg the next night) work fine. There is no premature termination - if it starts charging it goes right up to the configured limit.

Nothing has changed in my set up - it is very simple: no car schedule, plain Zappi overnight schedule, no Intelligent Octopus or similar configuration/control.

Anyone seen this?

Good thinking. They still look clean but I will try cleaning them anyway, thanks.

I'm guessing the contact cleaner stuff is non-conductive? Just want to be careful with what I spray!
