charging

A charging station, also called an EV charger or electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), is a piece of equipment that supplies electrical power for charging plug-in electric vehicles (including hybrids, neighborhood electric vehicles, trucks, buses, and others).
Although batteries can only be charged with DC power, most electric vehicles have an onboard AC-to-DC converter that allows them to be plugged into a standard household AC electrical receptacle. Inexpensive low-power public charging stations will also provide AC power, known as "AC charging stations". To facilitate higher power charging, which requires much larger AC-to-DC converters, the converter is built into the charging station instead of the vehicle, and the station supplies already-converted DC power directly to the vehicle, bypassing the vehicle's onboard converter. These are known as "DC charging stations". Most fully electric car models can accept both AC and DC power.
Charging stations provide connectors that conform to a variety of standards. DC charging stations are commonly equipped with multiple connectors to be able to supply a wide variety of vehicles.
Public charging stations are typically found street-side or at retail shopping centers, government facilities, and other parking areas.

Hi All, I’m getting a tethered char fitted, and I will need a cable in the car for charging when away, my question is do I need a single or three phase cable? I know that the rapid chargers themselves are tethered. cheers Tony.

Has anyone run into this issue? Charging overnight and started from approx 15%. It stopped at 88% even when charge window was for another 2 hours. This is the worst I've seen of this issue, I've had large charges previously where they've stopped at 97/98% but I not really questioned it much...

    MG4 DC charging tips

I've had this advice confirmed by several different charger makers on their helpline: - Generally if the charger lets you, authorise the charge before you plug in as it saves having to plug and unplug if it doesn't work for some reason. - Use the app if it exists to pay for the charge: much...

Does the MG4 app have a notification feature for finished charging?

In London the street chargers often have a 4hr limit...after 4hrs they charge 7p per minute if I overstay once charging is complete. I've forgotten about the car a couple times and been hit with the charge which is a bit annoying. Does the MG4 app have an alarm/notification to flag when...

    EV Gripes Rant

Can we have a good rant about the pitfalls of EV life. I for one find it really annoying when you’re waiting for someone to finish using a 50KW+ charger, and they’ve decided to sit in their car until 100%, even though they’re barely pulling 4KW over 90%, and there’s a whole bank of AC chargers...
