charging

A charging station, also called an EV charger or electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), is a piece of equipment that supplies electrical power for charging plug-in electric vehicles (including hybrids, neighborhood electric vehicles, trucks, buses, and others).
Although batteries can only be charged with DC power, most electric vehicles have an onboard AC-to-DC converter that allows them to be plugged into a standard household AC electrical receptacle. Inexpensive low-power public charging stations will also provide AC power, known as "AC charging stations". To facilitate higher power charging, which requires much larger AC-to-DC converters, the converter is built into the charging station instead of the vehicle, and the station supplies already-converted DC power directly to the vehicle, bypassing the vehicle's onboard converter. These are known as "DC charging stations". Most fully electric car models can accept both AC and DC power.
Charging stations provide connectors that conform to a variety of standards. DC charging stations are commonly equipped with multiple connectors to be able to supply a wide variety of vehicles.
Public charging stations are typically found street-side or at retail shopping centers, government facilities, and other parking areas.

    Public vs home charging

I have been monitoring the amount of miles I get when charging at home compared to using public chargers. I can definitely tell when I charge at home I get more miles and can only guess the public chargers don’t use green energy. Any thoughts?

Like most areas, it seems like it has been raining for weeks in Bristol. I do most of my MG4 charging at home. So I was wondering what most people think about charging their car outside (obviously) while it is raining.

Does the charging nag ever go away?

OH is concerned there's always a message 'please plug in the charge connector' on the infotaintment screen even when it's got plenty of charge. Is that how it's meant to be? Any way of turning it off? I guess it comes on if you set up for say 80% then fell below it. But seems a bit daft to start...

Same plug for charging and or V2L

I want to make a plug which can be used for both charging and V2L But I do not have an MG4 yet. My question is: What happens if the V2L plug is removed from the car when V2l is active and the plug is replaced by the normal AC type 2 charger plug ? Is there something one must do inside the car...

Home charging -- am I being ripped off?

Hi all, I'm looking for advice about my charging situation at home. I live in a block of flats and there are EV chargers in the garage, provided by the building. They operate with a token system. One token gives you 1 hour of charging. A bag of 20 tokens cost us £66 including VAT, so £3.30 per...

Clocks go forward - check charging schedules

I’m on Octopus Go for cheap electricity between 0030 and 0430. Octopus manages the change to and from BST automatically.
