public charging
Under the public charge rule, immigrants to United States classified as Likely or Liable to become a Public Charge may be denied visas or permission to enter the country due to their disabilities or lack of economic resources. The term was introduced in the Immigration Act of 1882. The restriction has remained a major cause for denial of visas and lawful permanent residency ever since; in 1992, about half of those denied immigrant and non-immigrant visas for substantive reasons were denied due to the public charge rule. However, the administrative definition of "public charge" has been subject to major changes, notably in 1999 and 2019.
In June, I'll need to make a return journey of 350 miles (without the wife as a passenger) but have never needed to use public chargers on shorter sub 200 mile trips. TBH, I'm bricking it.
I know I shouldn't worry but having never done it before, it's the unknown that gets me. Zap Map has...
I decided to try a couple of public chargers this morning, the first being a fast charger where I used my type 2 cable. It may have been my fault for not pulling out the cables in the right order or not pressing something on the infotainment screen, but I took the connector out of the car first...
Firstly, sorry this is a bit of a long one.
I would like to start by saying I love driving EV’s (I’m on my third one now) and would not go back to fossils. This is my experience on Sunday of driving to London and back and the problems I encountered. (You can skip to my thoughts at the end if...
Hi all, this is probably me being ignorant so bere with me. We have really used public chargers over the 18months of owning our MG5, and have never had an issue until yesterday. We drove some 180miles, charging once on the M6 on a 50KW no issues, then on the return 180mile journey we tried to...
Hi All,
we only got our ZS EV this week, bad timing cus the wife is away with her family, for road trip this weekend - in the car.
She has plugged in at a Waitrose and a different Public point (non Rapid) - thinking it was charging, but it hasn't.
Is there something we are missing -...
Just got back from a trip of about 220 miles.
Obviously with long range didn't need to charge (good job) but as the hotel had two Pod Point charge points I thought I would give it a bit of a top up just in case of any issues on the way back.
Had £5 credit on my Pod Point account so, plugged...
Traveling from Chelmsford Essex to Chinley Derbyshire - 198 miles. This was our first long journey in our MG5 LR. Indeed out first EV long journey! Theoretically we should be able to do this on one charge but I had my suspicions that this would not be possible - I was proved right! I planned to...

Hi all,
I received little update from MER and expect more companies to follow suit with the rising energy cost crisis. Thought it would be ideal thread starter. See below screenshot.
Hi All!
I have just purchased a new HS PHEV and I love it.
I have been using the granny charger for home charging which has been reliable.
I have tried 3 times (on 2 separate chargers) to use public charging, however I am finding that the lock for the charging cable continues to make a locking...
Just wondering guys, with all the different charging stations with different suppliers, do you have accounts at many or all? I guess this is a question mainly for folks that don't (yet) have a home charger.
I know it doesn't cost anything to register but maybe you just use the chargers on a...
Not gonna lie, wasn't perfect.
First stopped at Reading Eastbound services, both chargers being used and nobody around. So decided to keep driving.
Stopped at Mereoak Lane park and ride where there were two empty Charge Your Car points.
Couldn't use contactless so downloaded the app.
The app...
Hi all,
Had my ZS for about 2 weeks now and am thoroughly enjoying it. I'm now looking for a cable so that I can use a lot of the public charge points that do slow charging, but require you to have your own. I've found a 32 amp cable for about the same price as a 16amp one. So my question is...
