I see - I guess you'd need to contact the suppliers if there was specific info you are looking for, but it comes from reputable UK-based company with 2 year warranty.

I have tried to contact them on both their website/email and contacting them via their Amazon listing but both have been ignored.

Isn't the answer to physically check the socket for excessive heat after charging using the MG supplied granny charger for a reasonable period.
That is what I have been doing and have not felt it getting hot to the touch.
And of course a regular visual inspection of the socket and plug.

What I am not seeing on here is that a key reason for the granny charger saying it's for emergency use is because it doesn't have PEN fault detection which in certain circumstances (granted rare) could cause the car body to become live and would electrocute someone who touched the metal bodywork whilst a PEN fault was happening. This is the same issue why a basic "Commando" socket isn't supposed to be used either for fixed charging.

According to the IET PEN faults have increased by over 8 times since 2003, so this isn't an issue that is going away with time with around 400 reported instances per year (of PEN fault not electrocution via EV) and that's only what's reported.

Proper EVSE's are now required to have PEN fault detection, hence why they should be used for fixed installations, with all other methods being classed as unacceptable if they don't have PEN fault detection.

Point well made Gary, EVSEs are supposed to be significantly safer. So, if you can have one, it gives peace of mind and convenience.

Command sockets are approved under section 722 of BS7671 for EV charge points. But, like dedicated BS1363-2 EV rated 13A sockets, when installed within a property with a TN-C-S earthing arrangement will require dedicated earth rod or PEN fault detection.
