charging cable

A charging station, also known as a charge point or electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), is a piece of equipment that supplies electrical power for charging plug-in electric vehicles (including electric cars, electric trucks, electric buses, neighborhood electric vehicles, and plug-in hybrids).
There are two main types: AC charging stations and DC charging stations. Batteries can only be charged with direct current (DC) electric power, while most electricity is delivered from the power grid as alternating current (AC). For this reason, most electric vehicles have a built-in AC-to-DC converter, commonly known as the "onboard charger". At an AC charging station, AC power from the grid is supplied to this onboard charger, which produces DC power to charge the battery. DC chargers facilitate higher power charging (which requires much larger AC-to-DC converters) by building the converter into the charging station instead of the vehicle to avoid size and weight restrictions. The station then supplies DC power to the vehicle directly, bypassing the onboard converter. Most fully electric car models can accept both AC and DC power.
Charging stations provide connectors that conform to a variety of international standards. DC charging stations are commonly equipped with multiple connectors to be able to charge a wide variety of vehicles that utilize competing standards.
Public charging stations are typically found street-side or at retail shopping centers, government facilities, and other parking areas. Private charging stations are typically found at residences, workplaces, and hotels.

Charging cable on the MG4 Trophy

Hi. My very first EV arrives on Tuesday - the MG4 Trophy (23 reg) The dealer tells me it will come with a type 2 cable, but I am not sure if this will be 3 phase, does anyone know? Reason I ask is that I understand 3 phase cables will charge the car faster at public charging points. So if the...

Hello all! Complete EV noob as the name suggests. I'm picking up a second hand MG5 2021 plate on Friday. Excited and nervous at the same time... Is there anything I should be looking out for? Any tips? I've seen from other posts to ensure the charging (granny) cable is present, which it is...

Advice about buying a charging cable

We've had our MG Trophy for three months now. We've always charged at home with a tethered charger so haven't ever gone to the expense of buying any cables for if and when we need to charge on the road. Indeed, the price of public charging (often 79p per Kw fast charge) means we use our old...

    Carry a charging cable?

New Trophy came with what I now know to call a granny charging cable, but not a Type 2. I have. Zapppi with a tethered cable so no issues at home. I had assumed that all public chargers would have tethered type 2 or rapid charging cables. But now realised that there won’t be the cables tethered...

Problem unlocking charging cable from car

Had my first problem today. Went to ASDA and used one of their free charging points (BP Pulse) When I came out, I unlocked the car as usual to stop it charging. Tried to remove the cable from the car. It was still locked. Checked on the BP Pulse app and the car was still charging, so...

    Gen1 Locking charging cable.

I was under assumption that if I am charging the car and I lock it, then the locking cable should be locked as well preventing theft. I've tried it out today (with the granny charger), and it was not the case at all. I was able to pull out the charging cable without any effort from the car while...

    Charging cable/charger

Newbie here. Recently received the MG4 (yesterday). It’s arrived with both the granny charger and also another charging cable. I can’t seem to find if it’s a single phase or 3 phase cable. It’s the one that they offer as an accessory. I didn’t realise I’d be having one as the car is through work...
