battery range

An electric vehicle battery (EVB, also known as a traction battery) is a rechargeable battery used to power the electric motors of a battery electric vehicle (BEV) or hybrid electric vehicle (HEV).
Electric vehicle batteries differ from starting, lighting, and ignition (SLI) batteries, as they are typically lithium-ion batteries that are designed for high power-to-weight ratio and energy density. Smaller, lighter batteries are desirable because they reduce the weight of the vehicle and therefore improve its performance. Compared to liquid fuels, most current battery technologies have much lower specific energy, and this often impacts the maximum range of all-electric vehicles. Unlike earlier battery chemistries, notably nickel-cadmium, lithium-ion batteries can be discharged and recharged daily and at any state of charge. Other types of rechargeable batteries used in electric vehicles include lead–acid, nickel-cadmium, nickel–metal hydride, and others. The battery makes up a significant portion of the cost and environmental impact of an electric vehicle. Growth in the industry has generated interest in securing ethical battery supply chains, which presents many challenges and has become an important geopolitical issue. As of December 2019, the cost of electric vehicle batteries has fallen 87% since 2010 on a per kilowatt-hour basis. As of 2018, vehicles with over 250 mi (400 km) of all-electric range, such as the Tesla Model S, are available. The price of electricity to run an electric vehicle is a small fraction of the cost of fuel for equivalent internal combustion engines, reflecting higher energy efficiency.

    Battery Range > 300miles 4.6m/kwH - 481m round trip

481 miles, 4.6 miles per kwh. Cruise control speed set at 60mph. Best bits: It got me there and back - as expected. Other people at the chargers saved my life, told me how to get the charger to work and more importantly told me that to stop the charger you needed to reuse your card (makes sense...

    How Many miles??

I have a ZS Trophy EV and getting 312 miles on a full charge at this time of year. Anybody exceeded this??

General FL 5 (and other models?) range.

In the near future due too work, I'll have to start using the public charging network. Up to now, home charging has served me well and the ability to go to 100% with no time constraints. Now here's where my "range" question gets interesting, bear with me please. The FL 5 has a theoretical range...

    Battery range dropped

Hi Everyone, Potentially dumb question incoming! I’m brand new to EV’s, having got my MG ZS EV in March this year. When I first got the car it was charged to 100% and was displaying a range of around 190 miles. I generally found that there or there about, this is what I got back out of it. In...

    Battery range

My MGZS is 3 months old. The fully charged range was 198 mls but now it is down at 155. Has anyone had this problem or know what causes it. Cheers

How is the battery range estimated?

My 1 month old ZS LR is now showing 174 miles range at 80% charge, suggesting max range of 217 miles. This has only happened after a 600 mile, heavily laden trip. Is this because the range based on real time information or this my car faulty?

Battery range dropped from 32 to 31 miles?

When I first had my car and fully charged it the battery range would show 32 miles...now when it's fully charged it shows 31 miles. I only done 2400 miles since I received the car.

    100% Battery range

Hi everyone, I have had my MG5 LR 2 weeks now and just started yesterday using it on my daily commute. I can charge up at work on a Pod point for free, this morning I put the car on charge at 8.15 am. The battery was at 26%, at 2 pm I checked the car and it had 79% and 2 hours left to go. I...

    EV Battery range

There are lots of discussion and arguments about the various merits of budget priced MG EV’s and the more expensive offerings from Tesla et al. Now I appreciate if your budget only stretches to a ZS or HS PHEV it is still a very good value buy. However does anyone ever ponder why there is such a...

    HS EV battery range

Just clocked over 1000 miles on new HS (70% + in EV mode) but no idea how you are supposed to know when the petrol engine has done its 900 mile running in period. Anyway, todays journey round trip was 34.3 miles done in EV only mode including 18 miles of dual carriageway at 70. I’m actively not...
  13. Battery Range Reduced after a Rapid Charge

I bought my MG ZS EV Exclusive last September and thanks to Chorley MG in Burnley, who I have my maintenance contract with, the car has been updated as and when required, the last update being back in February 2021. I have hardly been anywhere since the last lockdown and the car as of yesterday...
